Magnetic letters - I can't even read them!

ok. I may be getting overly anal here but I want some magnetic letters for the fridge to start teaching letters. I have already posted on here regarding whether to teach upper or lower case first (result was nearly unanimously lower first with one person saying go for both at once) so bought some lower case ones from ELC. I am looking at these and they look a bit odd compared to how I write letters. Many have a tail on them (so more how they might look if they were in a joined up handwriting sentence) while other are just a bit odd (the "K" for example looks like a squashed "R" with a loop at the top).

Am I being too sensitive about this (I could not even guess what the K was trying to be!) and/or does anyone know where I can get other brands of letters which are a bit more usual. Thanks very much.

www.signplicity.co.uk does vinyl magnetic letters. You could contact her to see what she could do. I've had magnetic car signs from her and they were really lovely.

the k is normal for cursive handwriting - this is how they'll be taught in school

A lot of schools (most schools?) are teaching cursive joined-up writing right from the beginning of reception now, and it sounds as though those letters have been designed with that in mind.

If you know what school your DC will be attending, it might be worth finding out how they approach handwriting and hence which form of letters will be more useful.

The flicks and funny k are all part of the cursive type of writing, now favoured in the majority of primary schools.
