Beaconsfield primary school experiences?

We're currently thinking of moving into Beaconsfield, there's a property we've seen which would be in the catchment for St Mary's (to start school Sep 2027), however it's had a 'requires improvement' rating from Ofsted in 2022, and in 2025 seems to have improved to good. Has anyone had any recent experiences with St Mary's?

Butlers Court looks better but seems hit or miss whether we can get in just from distance alone (the house is 1 mile away but outside catchment) ? Alternative would be Holtspur, any experiences there?

Thanks!

Hi OP,

We are really fortunate in Beaconsfield to have great schools. I know children and parents in all three (St Mary’s, Butlers Court, Holtspur) and am a parent at one too, and it depends on what you’re looking for for your child really. BC is the most highly regarded of the three after St Mary’s Ofsted, but improvement there has been dramatic since then and they’ve had a full change of leadership and a lot of investment since. Holtspur is less traditionally academic but is a lovely inclusive school with a great community vibe.

Happy for you to PM me with specific questions if helpful. It’s a great place to live with children. Have you looked at this year’s admissions data for the address of the house you like?

Thanks! That's reassuring about St Mary's, I've looked at past admissions so I'm getting an idea of which school it'll be
Do pupils tend to go to 11+ schools for secondary, do parents do a lot of private tutoring?

All children at state schools in Bucks sit the 11+ unless they opt out. I think it’s fair to say tutoring businesses thrive round here…! But not everyone is cramming from a young age, lots have tutors just to practice the tests because state schools don’t actively prepare children for it. The unknown at the moment is what the impact of VAT on private will be, so only time will tell on that count.
