Hi
I want to start looking for a good independent primary school (maybe with a nursery school attached) for my DD, who is 2.2 at the moment. I live in Highbury, so I am looking for any recommendations in Islington, but also in Highgate and Hampstead. Any recommendations gratefully received !

Dallington is very boho and laid back. Rosemary Works is more of a nursery with a school attached. The Children's House is a nursery school that has a pre-prep on a different site. People also like the Lyceum, which is in the City. St Paul's ditto. Depends what you're after really -- they're all v. different schools.

Having said that, there are loads of good state schools around also, Islington isn't really prime private school territory. If you're going the Hampstead route, avoid like the plague anything that involves driving down Fitzjohn's Avenue in school run hours -- you 'll lose the will to live very swiftly.

Highgate is meant to be good, but you may be too late -- I have a feeling you have to register when they're one. Quite a few of the more over-subscribed schools may tell you the same tbh.

King Alfred's - Hampstead / Golder's Green borders? Quite laid back, lots of media types send their kids there.

You'll probably have to go on waiting lists now, as people put names down for good independent schools practically at birth.

Thank you frogs and MrsMattie - that's all really helpful. Sounds like I have to act quickly...
