bear with me, am typing one handed so might be typos.

the DDs are currently at a school about 3 miles from our house, as is DS1. Ds1 is in year 5, DD1 in year 3 and dd2 in year 1. A new school has opened about 2 mins walk from us, but is full.
Now, they can take DD1 (as she has a statement, so have to take her) but no space for the others. we had decided to leave DS1 at their current school anyway as he only has one year. But if we moved DD1, and no space come available for DD2 in the next year, then we will have to do 3 school runs come sept 2009. but if a space does come up then great!

So do I move DD1 and hope that a space comes up for DD2, or leave them at their current school, where I know they will be together...???

Get dd1 into the school. DD2 would then be at or near the top of the waiting list as a sibling. That's what I'd do if the school is great and close by.

NotABanana · 11/06/2008 16:38

Yes, me too.

SparklyGothKat · 11/06/2008 16:39

problem is because its a new school they only have one form entry atm, so only 30 places in all the years apart from reception. So what the chance of getting dd2 into the school??

What about you talk to the school and get their advice?

SparklyGothKat · 11/06/2008 16:44

i have been on the phone to the new school just now. And Dd2 is upset because she can't move with Dd1. I thought that because we live in the catchment area and the sibling rule will apply we would stand a good chance with Dd2 but the Head said they have a huge waiting list atm.

still don't know what to do. The new school are ready to take Dd1, and if we want her there then they will start getting support in place for sept, but I don't want Dd2 left on her own come 2009... my brain hurts!!

Who will suffer more - DD1 from not being moved, or DD2 being on her own? OR who will gain more?

SparklyGothKat · 11/06/2008 19:08

I think both schools will be good for dd1. their current school have an excellent ofsted report, their SATs results are very very good, and dd1 has come on leaps and bounds since we moved them to that school. BUT the new school is just around the corner, will be easier to get them there each day, and is also a very good school.

Oh good, as I read your first message I hoped you would come to that conclusion. If they're happy then keep them happy!

NotABanana · 12/06/2008 12:33

Great that you have decided. I have been wondering what you had decided to do.

tissy · 12/06/2008 12:37

could you put dd2 on the waiting list, and move them both when she gets to the top?

SparklyGothKat · 12/06/2008 16:04

I asked that but the head said no
