What’s the ideal parent?

Looking for opinions from teachers and parents, what is the ideal parent in your opinion.

My daughter started school in September, should I be throwing myself in to doing the PTA and going to the front of the queue waiting to pick up the kids to chat with other parents?

A lot of the parents seem to sit in their car until they need to get out

I want my daughter to do well, what can I do to support her socially?

In academic terms what can I do to support her best?

For context, she goes to a very small village school (think less than 100 children) and I’m currently a SAHM with a 10 month old baby, we also have very little money.

Firstly .. Relax!! The best parents don't stress too much and do what they can.
Chat if you want, it helps to know other parents to organize play dates.

Academically, read with her and make it fun. Share her enthusiasms. Don't stress about homework until you get to secondary.

I have one doing Physics in a top uni and one heading to drama school. I encouraged their passions when they were young and it's paid off. Let them drop things they don't like (DS did football and karate but settled on tennis) they will work hard at the things that interest them.

Well, I wouldn't rush into the PTA just yet. Pace yourself. You have 7 years.

Listen to your DD read at home. Help her with SmartyMaths or TTRockstars.
Make sure she has a good diet, plenty of exercise and lots of sleep.

If your dd wants to invite a friend home, offer a play date or two.

Go to the nativity play or carol concert.

If you manage that through to next spring, and your dd is happy, engaged and making friends, you'll be doing well. By then, you should know some of the characters and the general rhythm of the school, and you'll know what extra you want to contribute.

Be on time
Reply to letters from school ASAP
Read most nights, practice the phonics sounds etc (then spellings, times tables etc as she goes up the school)
Attend school events
Support your DDs interests.

If there's a village Squirrels or Rainbows... sign her up. (Or Beavers at 6yo, those are from 4yo)
