How often are you bathing your primary aged children?

My daughter is 4 and has just started reception. I also have a 9 month old.

At the moment I bathe both of them (sometimes together usually apart) every other day. Is this what other people do? I try not to wash DD1’s hair more than once a week

Are other parents really doing this every day?

To be honest this is a wider question about how the heck parents find the time for everything. I’m a SAHM as well, don’t know how two working parents do it AND make sure their children are eating well and the house is cleaned and the dog it walked and the reading home work is done… but also the child has downtime to just play as well 😬

Wow, I wonder if you would say that to her face. I doubt it. Are you having a very bad day today?

18 month old - every day. It's part of his bedtime routine and it's very quick. I love freshly bathed babies in their fresh babygros and this is my last baby so I will enjoy it as long as I can - plus he absolutely loves it too.

DD also just started reception. We used to bathe every day until somewhere around the age of 3? Then here and there started missing a day and now I'd say it's usually every other day. This is mainly because she's so exhausted some evenings that it's not worth the tears, she needs her bed ASAP! Hair is usually twice a week.

DS8 every day but he does sport 3 out of 5 week days - he showers though not baths.
DD4 (at nursery though) - I'd say average 5 out of 7 days - we skip a couple l a week if not needed
Hair for both twice a week now. DD will probably need 3 times soon as its uncontrollable.

The way you write just sounds like you’re on the wind up.

Either:

You are very rude and misogynistic

Or you’re pretending to be a snobby ultra-hygienic person to stir the pot.

Then again, you’ve been reported and not banned so maybe this is your genuine persona?

@RedRobyn24 every day is from baby as part of a routine to help settle them and they do wear dirty nappies. .
school age is just a when needed . If they are playing out and dirty yes. .
If they are covered in pen or something in their hair .
My elder school age is every other day .This will increase soon enough .
I do Sunday night , and every other day . They also have swimming lessons .

i think you are putting to much on yourself . Do a few times a week and see how it goes .
As long as they are in clean bed and jammies and doing their face hands and teeth .

Mummyto3ginismyfriend · 18/10/2025 11:51

DD 10 full shower and hair wash twice a week with spot cleans in-between. This will obviously increase as and when puberty etc hits.
DSs 12 and 14 they shower daily but they are teen boys and stink!

Everyday to remove urine and excrement.

There is nothing wrong with keeping your child clean, all the power to you.

We do baths every day, but my DC really enjoy being in the bath so it doubles as downtime for them (they hate showers). They are old enough that I don't need to stay right by them in the bath any more and we only do hair washing every couple of days so I can get a few jobs done. They take turns now so while one is in the bath the other one is doing their reading book.

As for how we do it as two working parents, normally I do bath and books while DH does tidying/cleaning of living areas. We don't have a dog to walk though!

This is us as well. It's every day as part of the bedtime routine, but sometimes they're only in it for minutes. If they're in for longer they love it - and honestly I'm just grateful for the non screen time, entirely contained play they get in there!

DS7 gets a shower every day, except 1-2 times a week when he gets a bath.
He is basically on the same routine since he was a baby and it’s part of our bedtime routine- it doesn’t take long, I promise!
He comes home most days with dirty nails from playing outside or working on some art projects, his feel smell as he sweats, his trousers have a faint smell of pee, his clothes and hair smell of school/food and the state of his pants sometimes shows he didn’t wipe very effectively.
Cleaning all these body parts separately would take WAY longer than popping him under the shower/in the bath!
He used to suffer from eczema and we were actually recommended to bath in a special emollient daily. Now he’s ok, unless under the weather, but we still use soap and shampoo for sensitive skin, and only use a little, followed by moisturiser.

Irishconnection93 · 22/11/2025 18:47

Pleased to see I'm not the only one who does every other day.

My eldest is 12 and showers/baths every day. Hair wash max twice a week.

Youngest 2 are 5&6 and they're bathed every other day. In summer they're bathed/showered more frequently thanks to sweat and suncream!
They have very curly hair and I only ever brush it when it's wet and has conditioner in it, that gets done every time they have a bath - if I leave it too long between washes it's an absolute nightmare to comb through!
