Thorpe house Gerrards cross

Hi all
I can only find old threads on Thorpe House in Gerrards cross- I was wondering if anyone has any recent reviews on Thorpe house for primary school education (reception to yr 6) - quality of education, facilities, happiness, the type of boy that would benefit from a small school such as Thorpe house.
How would it compare to nearby Gayhurst school?

I don’t know anyone who goes to Thorpe House, but loads who go to Gayhurst, Davenies and The Beacon - which probably tells you something

@Maternityleavelady That’s a little harsh. Thorpe House is an all through school and great for those boys who need a little extra support, especially pastorally. It’s not a hot house nor known for it’s results, BUT the results reflect the non selective cohort.

The schools you mention are definitely preferred in the area - largely due to it being a grammar area. They specifically prepare for entrance exams at 11 / 13 so are offering an entirely different “product” to Thorpe House. TH want you to stay so you won’t receive exam prep at these stages.

I know two families with boys there / used to go there. One family moved to the Beacon for Y3 as they wanted grammar or Berkhamsted at 11. The other family has one just started Y10 and has been there throughout. Very happy and is achieving HIS potential and some (but that’s not all grade 9s). I wouldn’t choose TH if I was looking elsewhere at 11 but it offers a wonderful supportive environment to a certain type of boy.

I had a tour with Gayhurst a few years ago and did like it. However the deputy head (who I believe is now the headteacher) made it out as if the 11+ and going to grammars was not something they aspired to and that most people go on to secondary independents. That’s certainly not the case from other parents who I have since spoken to who choose Gayhurst and then move onto grammars…

The destinations of the private school prep kids in GX seem to be roughly split between grammar schools and independent schools (some with scholarships) - probably 50/50 in the girls schools

Thanks for the info. Regarding state schools what’s your opinion on the GX Church of England school? Torn between state and private especially following the introduction of VAT which has increased the yearly rate by almost £4000 in some independents.
