I need some perspective, my girls go to a newish school and in the beginning I loved it, the ethos, the community feel, the teaching. As the school is growing, it feels like the leadership teams are scrabbling to make things work! There are so many things I feel upset about, not all I voice! I don't want to be a pain to the teachers, I know how hard they work but...
The lunchtime seems chaotic, my girls tell me they have very little time to eat, and always feel rushed. They rarely eat most of their lunch. They are not chatter-boxes, they know they have limited time, but still struggle to eat. This just makes me so sad, don't they deserve to relax and enjoy their lunch?
But my biggest gripe is the amount of screen-time they have from year 3. They get given their own chromebooks, and my eldest tells me they use them most of the day, some learning might be via apps but also worksheets online when doing handwriting/maths/other lessons. They already get a lot of online homework, which can take around an hour and a half, but we have spent longer if it is something trickier or not been taught in class yet (this happens often, but I stop at 2 hours!), this is on top of their usual reading every day and spelling test. The school have now said they expect children to be doing Timestables Rockstars every day and half an hour of a new reading app (both my daughters are avid readers) this app is all about speed reading and it tracks the eye movement. It just feels a lot! Most of my family and friends who have primary school aged children have very little homework and even less screen time! So I guess I am looking for parents with children in a similar position and your thoughts!
