Transport to school

Hi all.

my son is 5 and the school he goes to is a 25min drive away, however we have a mini bus service that can pick him up and take him to school but the drive in the morning with the mini bus is taking 1hr 15mins due to traffic and picking up all the other children, I feel like it’s not fair and whenever I can which is usually 3 times a week I take him myself (I enjoy it as we chat and enjoy the time together)

the issue is it’s still 2x a week, and it’s 5x after school finishes usually takes 1hr to get home and I never pick him up due to work.

im just not sure if I should speak to my work and see if I can come up with some flexibility or is it not as bad as I’m thinking ? 🤔

we can not change schools, this is a brilliant one and he loves being there.

I think it is as bad as you are thinking for a five year old to have an hour and a quarter commute seven times a week.

It’s different she; they are secondary age because they don’t have such a short evening because they go to bed much later.

If he got home in 30 minutes would you be back from work or does that extra commute actually give you time you need to get home?

Where do you work geographically speaking? Is moving nearer and getting a childminder and option?

That's a lot for a 5 year old, I travelled similarly for secondary and found it a lot. He must be exhausted. Are you sure a nearer school wouldn't be better for him over all?

What are his feelings about it?

Mine loved the school bus as they could chat with friends. But there's was only 40mins. The first ones on were on for about an hour. And it wasn't uncommon for the younger ones to fall asleep.
