Infant school have to apply for junior part of school (moving house)

My DC has just started primary school and I was considering moving area. From reception to year 3 he is in the infant part of the school but from year 4 onwards it will be the juniors. It was mentioned by the headteacher that you have to apply for the infant school but all children will still get a place. I’m just now worried that this won’t include if you move area outside of the catchment. Does anyone have any experience with this?

You need to check the schools criteria for applications and see if priority is given to those in catchment or those attending the infants school.

Also are you sure he will still be in the infants until year 3 as infants is usually Reception -Year 2 and in year 2 you apply for a place at the juniors where they start in year 3.

Nobody here can tell you, it depends on the criteria used by your local authority for your particular school.

Junior is KS2, which is year 3-6.

Check the junior school admissions. The school my kids go to prioritise the children from the infants, so it would be fine to move. Another local school has the same criteria as the infants, so you run the risk of not getting a place.

Application for juniors is y2, DS' school is the same infant and juniors separate with different heads etc but in the same site, DS is in y2 and we have to apply this year for juniors hopefully you can wait to move until after he starts y3

Thanks everyone. I’m going to contact them to find out exactly what the admissions criteria is. And yes you are all correct Juniors is from year 2 not year 3 like I thought 🤦🏻‍♀️

It has to be published on the school's website lovely so you shouldn't need to contact them to find out the admissions criteria.

You need to check the actual admissions criteria for the junior school, but 3 out of 4 junior school in my area had being at the infants school as the first admissions criteria. The forth was a catholic school which had it after being catholic.
