7+ assessment tips for a dad in London

Hi all,

I am preparing my daughter for the 7+ assessments, and so far have refused to pay for any tutors, but would love to hear from others.

  1. Does anyone have a curriculum / checklist of all the things one needs to learn for the 7+ assessments in London schools?
  2. Which online past papers are helpful to purchase? There are so many! And are they tailored accurately for each school, or are they generic?
  3. Specifically for City Junior School, are there any resources or tips to prepare?

For what is worth, my daughter is intelligent and up to speed in school; so more interested in the softer side of things (anything beyond the typical curriculum, format, unusual questions etc).

Thanks
Just a Dad

For what it's worth: when i was at the City Juniors open day, the head specifically told the group not to "spend hundreds of pounds buying City Juniors papers" online - i.e. ones that are supposedly for City Juniors entry, as they have nothing to do with the very tailored assessment their head of curriculum / maths etc write each year

City do like potential, and will assess a child based on their background, so a child coming from say an elite prep will be looked at differently to a child from a state primary. I think if she's answering 10 minute tests from Bond and generic past papers, she should be fine from state primary, from prep, they may expect more....sheen, and that is only fair to be honest.

You should have back up plan if City doesn't pan out, try and book a mock exam, and get a uncle or aunt to mock interview her.

You don't need to tutor, externally, but you certainly need to tutor as a parent to give her a good chance , regardless if she's at a prep or state primary.

We are doing the 7+ for City Juniors, but remember in London there has been a drop off in birth rate for our babies around 2018, and international applicants has been less strong with Brexit, Farage etc, and the real killer VAT, its probably never been a better time to apply for 7+, if you can cover inflated Fees.

having just been through the entire process for 7+ this year I can attest that no tutor was the way to go - but we did prep a fair bit at home
