Hi all,

Hope somebody can help me.

I would like to move in bromley/orpington area for the good grammar schools. My DS is 2.5yo and I'm looking for an outstanding primary school with great KS2 results in SE London/ Kent.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

The catchment areas for the secondary schools will be on the local authority websites. If that's your end game, start there.
Then Rightmove to see if you can afford to live within the catchment area, when you move to the location section you can highlight schools and it gives the current Ofsted rating.
Or you buy somewhere that gets you into a great primary school with the aim of relocating before applications have to go in for secondary school.

There a loads of great primaries. Are you planning on staying in the area? I’d get yourself in catchment for secondary if so.

Bromley is not a grammar county although kids do travel out of borough to grammars. St Olaves and Newstead are super selective not grammar.

Thanks. I thought they were grammar schools (and a quick google search tells me the same).

Do you know good secondaries in the area?

Bexley is a grammar borough. The Bromley schools are Grammars but they are super selective and there is a lot of competition to secure a place. Kent is a full grammar county.

Newstead and St Olaves are grammar schools…..

Secondary’s local to me are Langley girls/Langley boys & Hayes they are sought after, Beckenham Harris & the ones in Eden Park I’m not familiar with so you would have to research those, we have excellent primary schools.
was under the impression that Newsted woods & St.Olaves were super selective not grammars could be wrong though.

It is far too early to know which secondary would suit your kids!

As pp have explained, there are only two grammar schools in Bromley, St Olaves (boys) and Newstead Wood (girls). However, there are more grammars in Bexley Borough, and in Kent, with the nearest being Sevenoaks (annexes of Weald of Kent - girls and TWGSB - boys), plus more in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells, to which some Bromley children travel.

Entry to all these schools is very competitive.

However, there are also lots of outstanding comprehensives and as birth rates are falling, admissions should ease a little in coming years.

Harris academies has a big presence in both primary and secondary and they are not everyone's cup of tea.

Hi, there is Warren Road Primary School in Chelsfield/Green St Green area - rated outstanding but does have a tight catchment (approx 0.6 miles) - Bromley schools base other selections like Looked after children/children of staff/siblings before considering catchment so the actual catchment can change.
very lovely school ☺️
