Where do you get yours from? Which is better - Stamp or sticker ? School has asked to even label the shoes and socks!

There are so many options but I don’t know which will last for a few washes.

Thank you!

I get my stickers from stuck on you and my name tapes are sew in from Cash. My stuck on you stickers have been through the dishwasher probably 500 times and they are still perfect. They do shoe label and iron in labels.

I teach EYFS and the most important thing when naming something is that your child can find their jumper in the tangle of ten jumpers.

And for me, them looking for the label, often on a side seam and then having to look for their name stamped on over the top of the manufacturer’s information on the label, doesn’t work as well as a iron in or stitches in label on the neck.

My vote is neither and go for a sharpie pen instead. Easier and cheaper. I would absolutely ignore the instructions to label socks because how often do they come off anyway and even they did go missing, which I find unlikely because we’ve had many a lost jumper, hat or blazer over the years but never a sock, I could totally live with that because they cost pennies. Our school uniform provider if you get the name tape service tries to sew tags into socks but they stick out awkwardly and the kids find them uncomfortable so we ended up cutting them out. If you must definitely go with a stamp.

We got a stamp from Stamptastic for all the many clothes, and then stickers from My Nametags for shoes and water bottles etc. It would add up cost wise to put stickers in every item of clothing

I have used stickers from nametags4u since ds was in nursery. He is now going into year 11.

They wash well, never come off unless you really pick at them and work on pretty much everything you send in!

Working in a school I find the clothes labelled using stickers at the start of the year are much more likely to still have a clear name on at the end. When people use pen it tends to wash off by Easter

Sharpie pen on the label here, still going strong as she goes into year two and wearing the same jumper from reception!

Yup it outlasts the stamps for sure. I’ve had DC1 wear stuff for 2 years, and DC2 for another 2 and the original sharpie is still going strong. Tried stamps once and those did fade within a few months.

I'd actually take the labelling socks thing with a pinch of salt. We say this too but quite tongue in cheek. We basically say it's really important to label everything you wish to come back to you so jumpers, coats, bookbag, hat, trousers, even socks if you wish! I guessing this instruction was given in the same way. Please only label socks if you want to!

Well done for getting organised. It never fails to surprise me how how many people don't bother to label a brand new jumper which they've just paid a lot of money for, despite being told to, and then blame the school when it goes missing and doesn't come back them. At the end of the day, we can encourage children to put their belongings safely in their drawer or bags when they take them off in the classroom, and remind them not to go stripping off on the playground and discarding their clothes outside, but ultimately they are 4 year olds who are still learning to be responsible and we cannot be held accountable for lost jumpers. As long as they're named, they will usually come back to the right owner 9 times out of 10. Sometimes they even go home with the wrong owner, if children grab the wrong one by mistake, but most people will be honest and bring it back if it's named. If it's not, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack in a school.

Stikins name stickers are my far the best and best value price wise too.
Iron on labels don’t last and I found the stamp wasn’t very visable on the clothing label and the ink pad dried up quite quickly.

We’ve just bought Stikins. Will have to see how they hold up over the winter. How do they do on low in the tumbledryer?

Absolutely fine, I’ve two daughters and everything I’ve labelled is still stuck ready for daughter number 2 to eventually wear!
I bought a massive bundle of labels with just our surname on, should probably last until littlest finishes primary, she starts reception this year 🤣

@Heckythump1Great to know, thanks! We’re planning on doing the same. Benefits of having a rare surname! 😂

Wanted to come back to this thread to say even after all the stickers which I went with. We lost 2 pairs of gloves , 1 PE shorts and 1 pair of socks (they had to remove them to go on the mat during PE). I checked in lost property they didn’t have any of the items lost.

All together it’s so expensive 🫣 and it’s not yet 1/3rd of reception. I’m dreading how much it’ll cost in the long run.
