Are these Good Sats scores?

Reading - 109
Maths - 107
SG&P - 117

my daughter didn’t get praised for her results in her end of primary assembly whereas almost every other child did.

i thought she’d done super well - but maybe not?!

just a little confused. Have emailed school but they are closed now and the head said she would chat to her the fork tutor in September.

Just a little worried. Thanks :)

Yes they’re very good, especially SPAG. Expected standard is 100 so she’s well over that. Greater depth is 110 so she’s there in SPAG, and super close in reading.

sorry you feel she wasn’t praised, that’s rubbish.

She didn’t even get a mention whereas the other kids were showered in praise in front all of their peers and parents. Such a shame for her as she worked super hard and did super well!!! It meant leaving primary on a downer.

I wouldn’t like the praising of the other children in front of all the other parents. Were her results in line with expectations?

borderlaise · 19/07/2025 08:09

They are good results. It is a very small school? Individual SATS results were not mentioned when DD left Y6 last year. But there were 180 kids in the year and a lot of kids working at greater depth.

My HT at primary school never praised me although I was always top of my class (sorry, but true). She only praised the ones who had to work hard to get good results. She once gave a small prize to a pupil who had had to go away to learn how to spell a word, when I could already spell the word but she was interested in hearing from me. Sometimes teachers can be unfair without meaning to be. I hope you have given your daughter a small gift as a reward for her good results.

Ar my son's school, they didn't even mention
SATS at the end of term assembly. There was a prize giving assembly that the parents of children who won prizes were invited to attend.
The boy who did get 120 in his maths Sat got the maths prize.
My son got the English prize , he got 116 in reading, 120 in SPaG and greater depth in externally modded writing. Maths was his weakest subject at 113.

Depends on the school. DD got 119 and 120 for both English and Reading and GD for writing. She didn’t win the English prize at the leavers ceremony. Didn’t even get in the top 3 nominated. She didn’t win anything. With 179 other kids to compete against in her year, it was a tough gig. I agreed it was a bit unlucky. It was the only time she said she wished she’d gone to a small junior school with only 1-2 classes in the year group 😆

She’s just finished Y7 at grammar school and she got and “outstanding” rating on every assessment and exam in English she had through the year. Teacher said she was gifted at parents evening. Didn’t win the English prize at end of term though 😆

How is she socially / emotionally?

She’s fine thanks! 😆 She’s just at big schools with a lot of above average kids! TBH Her junior school only did awards for subjects and sports, they didn’t have social / personality awards like some schools do.

Cormoransjacket · 19/07/2025 19:00

Could it have been that the children who got GD in everything were individually praised, and the others were not? Your lovely girl did a fantastic job even if she did not happen to meet the fairly arbitary 110 score in all subjects. My son went to a two form entry junior school and I don't think his teachers even bothered to speak to him. Children can get overlooked in most schools I think. Your girl deserves lots of praise and recognition for doing so well.

Perrymatlockmarple · 19/07/2025 19:08

Is 120 equivalent to full-marks (100%) or is it an A (70% or above)?

hottoday22 · 19/07/2025 19:21

Yes your daughters score are good - well done her! Especially the SGP.
My son got over 120 in all areas for his standardised score. He got ‘B’ for effort in every single subject and his progress rating was ‘good’ (rather than satisfactory or excellent). He’s the best all round sports kid in his school, represents the county at racquets, and he still got a B at sport. Go figure.

on the other hand , my daughter got 80-90 in her scores so is below average. She received B’s and C’s for effort despite the fact she is dyslexic with dyspraxia and tries really hard in everything. She was also rated ‘good’ for progress. She hasn’t made ‘good’ progress at all.

just goes to show it’s a load of rubbish. My two children who are wildly different in their attainment received a rating of ‘good’ progress. I’d say my son’s attainment should have been excellent, and my daughters should have been satisfactory at best. Effort wise they both should get an A.

Neither got recognised at the end of term awards. Other kids got awards and they are definitely not in top tier sports.

I just tell my kids I think they’re the best thing ever and the world isn’t always fair, But they should keep trying their best.

Perrymatlockmarple · 19/07/2025 19:29

I told my child that's its more for the schools to see how their teachers are teaching.
Will low-scoring schools get more Govt money?

There are usually grade/score boundaries which differ slightly every year. 120 could be 100% or a few marks less than that.

oudle · 19/07/2025 19:43

My dc got

reading 119
maths 116
spag 116

No special mention either but I wasn't expecting one. A large proportion of dc at the school get similar scores. The teacher did say she smashed her mocks and reading was exceptional but mocks were just before parents evening.

oudle · 19/07/2025 19:45

plenty of dds friends would have got 119+
in everything! 😆

Snorlaxo · 19/07/2025 19:46

They are very good results and it’s a shame that her effort hasn’t been recognised because that’s the qualities that increase the likelihood of academic success at secondary and beyond.

Well done to dd and make sure she knows that you’re proud.

BarnOwlFlying · 19/07/2025 19:47

The teachers see how the children are every day at school - something the parents do not. Teachers will, unsurprisingly, have a different view on each child’s efforts and attainments than their parents.
Use this as an opportunity to teach your child resilience OP. Nothing to stop you praising your child and rewarding her (as I’m sure you will have done). No need to question everything a teacher does - you will never have the full picture.
