Starting Year 3 / uniform

DD starts Y3 in September. I usually stock up on uniform from M&S but no 20% off this year.

DD is one of the younger ones in her class. There’s been a few babyish comments made towards her from some of the older girls in the class.

I love the pinafores, but are these more appropriate for reception and key stage 1?

Also school shoes - any slightly more grown up girls shoes that don’t scuff up recommendation”s? She’s already said she doesn’t want the Clarks mermaid style ones.

Thsnks

I'd say it's school dependent but at dd's school the year 5 and 6's don't wear pinafores but the younger ks2 girls do. Dd (going into year 6) is still happy in thr older style of Clarks shoes. We've had some from next but they lasted all of 3 weeks. M&s also have some nice shoes and they also last.

If you are dressing her in a baby way so she is being picked on then def avoid the pinafore. Look at what other y3 girls are wearing.

Children at that age don't inherently know who is the youngest and oldest but if yiu are babying your daughter and dressing her in younger clothes then that's unfair imo

You don’t really see year 6s wearing a pinafore here, thins out a bit in year 5 but definitely worn by years 3&4 just as much as in R-Yr2!

I teach year two. A lot of the girls in my class wear shorts or trousers. I don’t think any wear pinafores when it’s colder although most do wear summer dresses, Some do have T-bar shoes but they are the chunkier sort.

If she's worried about being called babyish I wouldn't buy pinifores as they do tend to be a younger style. Most wear skirts or trousers by KS2.

Clarks do plenty of more grown up style shoes too. Take her to have a look in August. I'm sure she'll find something she approves of.

Im not dressing her in a baby way, but she’s one of the youngest and is a young 6/7 year old. A lot of the girls in the class are September / October born so nearly a whole year between them. On non uniform days a group of them turn up in crop tops who do the babyish chanting when she’s in jeans and T-shirts.

Loads of pinafores in our school. The T-bar shoes also worn until Year 4. DD wears shorts with tights underneath. And now brogues.
Year 5.

Completely depends on the school though. Loads of girls wear those ugly massive hair bows that are twice the size of their heads.

@Zizibobo She’s in a class with other dc and who knows who is the youngest and, frankly, who cares? My DD was young (mid August birthday) but no one thought she was young and they would never have known. You seem to be wanting to reinforce it. Every school has dc with birthdays spread over a year but that doesn’t alter what they wear.

Look at what other dc are wearing in y3 and buy similar. My DD had a skirt, blouse and school top with tights. She could dress herself quickly after PE and that’s what she preferred. She did that from YR. These days some like trousers but DD didn’t so would not have worn them.

@ZiziboboNot sure it was that simple! I just think you made a comment about an August birthday! However just look around you to suss out what’s DDs are wearing. Better than any views on here!

A child turning up in a crop top would be sent home from any of the schools my kids attended!

But most wore skirts or trousers by the age if 7. Ironically some of the "fashionable" ones were in pinafore in Yr6!

It's so school dependent. Where I teach, girls in Y6 wear checked summer dresses whereas in some schools they tend only to be worn in KS1. Skirt and polo is a safe bet in Y3/4.
