Devonshire House costing 30k?

What justifies the 30k fee? 25k I understand, but 30k is on par with those in Knightbridge and Kensington. Academically, it is decent but not excellent. Pupils are very happy though.

The fees are in line with pretty much all the other prep schools in the Hampstead area. I’m not sure why you have singled them out as they have a good reputation.

@bayesian , you would do better to compare to other central London preps owned by Dukes Education, the school doesn't sign off on the fees structure.

It’s all about what the market will bear. It’s a business… if people will pay more, that’s more profit.

id avoid dukes Ed run schools totally tho - brutal business, no concern for kids, or teachers either.

As someone with inside knowledge of Dukes I would also avoid.

At the end of the day, independent schools are a business. Fees are not based on whether the academics are good or not - fees make up the money they use to run the business (rent, wages, equipment, supplies, bills etc).

Not really, Hampstead Hill is in the region of 23/24k.

Fees from 2025 for Yr 3+:

Hall School £29.5k
SHHS £23.2k
St Christopher's £24.4k
St Margaret's £22.7k
St Marys £24.3k
UCS £30.1k
NBH Regent's Park £31.2k
Cavendish £22.6k
St Anthony's £26.5k

So £30k is at the higher end definitely.

Dukes is private equity owned

I have only seen Eaton House Manor and Devonshire, very different feel. But both seem overpriced and business-like in different ways. Eaton House cramming two schools into a site suitable for one, Devonshire pricing to Hampstead affordability

Same as Glendower which feeds into StPauls, Devonshire only sends to a mixed bag

Which hampstead schools are charging 30k? Whatever, a lot of people are obviously happy to pay 30k for Devonshire, just not me

@bayesian if you’re still reading, I’d really take on this advice about dukes

pure business, no compassion, lots of rubbish marketing to get you in their “family”
fees going up considerably yearly with little to show for (personal experience)

that 30k is likely to be 35 next year ..

do lots of research before committing

I agree, I wanna go work for Dukes

I must say I don’t agree, we have had an excellent experience of one of the Duke’s schools.

daffodilsandaisies · 18/05/2025 13:00

Don’t go work for them, they screwed over their Portland Place team (and the kids) w zero concern or compassion.
