Primary School Admissions 2025 waitlist

Hi everyone!

We got our catchment school place today but we were waitlisted for our first choice. I really wanted my DD to go to the first one and the catchment literally finished the road away from ours.

We have been told she is number 5 on the list but this can change, she can go up or down depending on different factors.

Has anyone had any luck getting a place after being on the waitlist? and when were you told?

I'm really grateful she managed to get a place at our catchment school because I know it's not been like that for everyone but we had our hearts set on our first choice,

Anyone been through the same thing?

Thanks!

Found out today that we are number 6 on a 60 intake year so think it’s quite unlikely unfortunately. I don’t think there is going to be 10% movement, esp on a 33 intake of siblings year!

We are number 4 on a 60 intake and feel the same, especially when ur first preference is quite popular..

How often is it appropriate to call and ask about our position?

Roseallday15 · 14/05/2025 15:46

The lady told me to call every two weeks but said it could go up and down. I think I’m just going to leave it there now and focus all of my energy into getting excited about the other school. My daughter seems happy to go there so going with an “everything happens for a reason” attitude 💐

Roseallday15 · 05/06/2025 17:02

We’ve moved two spaces so are now number 4. Still not holding out hope and slowly accepting the new school and trying to get excited for my daughter

Charmatt · 05/06/2025 19:21

We are currently chasing the last few stragglers on our lists who haven't yet accepted. Just a few left across our schools.

Alexandrababy1 · 06/06/2025 19:44

Hey!
We were number 5, then got moved to number 6 then I called today and we're now number 4, they said to call back once a week to check.
Apparently a lot of the movement is in july and august so we do still have some time xx

I’ve called today (while in the middle of the med on a cruise 🤣) we are now number 1, I’m praying to the school gods every night!

@Roseallday15 the school doesn’t happen to be Cuddington Croft does it?

we were number 5 on the waitlist and just got a place on Thursday so you’ll be next (you’ll definitely get in I think)

Yes it is! Congratulations, I really hope we get a space!

Will keep my fingers crossed for you!

According to friends who are primary school teachers and friends who have been on school waiting lists, if you make it to #1 now you are extremely likely to get in before September and if not then, you will during the first term if you don’t mind switching schools

Good luck!

Son is currently no.1 on 1st preference school waiting list. Initially we were going to wait until mid August before buying specific uniform pieces and just waiting it out.
However, in the meantime our 2nd choice has had an info day and has a transition day mid July. We've had the discussion about just committing to the 2nd as we are planning our calendar around it and if we get the 1st choice last min we'll be going in blind as we'll have missed all the info and transition sessions.

We moved just before our DDs started Reception, so we missed Transition. I honestly don't think it made any difference. Its quite a long time for a 4yo between the Transition days and September.

It depends on how much you prefer your first preference to your second preference!

Good luck!

We’ve been allocated Ewell Grove, which is also still a great school, just a bit more tricky logistically for us. I think if she has already started at Ewell Grove we will probably end up staying there.

Still Number 1, basically just accepted it’s not going to happen now! Bought the uniform for the other school and sorted out afterschool club so pretty much set now! Can’t believe it would have only taken one more place 🙃🙃

We're at the same point. My partner mentioned that at this point our calendar and transition events are all centred around our second choice so we agreed to just commit to it. Partner is a little disappointed (he got to visit choice 1 but not choice 2) as he liked the first choice and the schools it would transition to. However the second choice was also good but in a very different atmosphere and I'm happy with it regardless.

roses2 · 11/07/2025 11:30

Hang in there if you are near the top. We were no 1 on a 1 form entry oversubscribed primary school and we got the call the last week of July offering us a spot.

We were originally offered our 4th choice. In September schools no 2 and 3 called offering us a spot.

If you are in a transient area with people regularly moving house there is a high likelihood of getting in at some point.

Roseallday15 · 14/07/2025 16:46

We’ve only gone and been offered a space this afternoon!!

I feel like I should be over the moon but now wondering if after school care is going to be a logistical nightmare.

Wish this had just happened 2 months ago!

thehonscupboard · 16/07/2025 08:34

Just found this thread - have you decided if you’ll go with choice 1 or 2? Must be a hard decision when you’ve got all your logistics sorted for choice no. 2. My DC started off at 4th on the waiting list for our first choice and has slipped down to no. 8. So disappointing!

Roseallday15 · 16/07/2025 12:02

I think we have decided to go with our first choice. Both schools are good schools but the results from the first school are phenomenal, it has a swimming pool and the children have lessons every year, it also has its own playing fields whereas the other school doesn’t. It’s frustrating about the logistics, particularly as we need after school club and had managed to secure it at our second choice and now we will be bottom of the waiting list at our first choice but it feels really short sighted not to take our first choice based on after school club only! We will just have to make it work and luckily we have flexible work arrangements!

I'm sorry to hear that you have slipped down the list, that must be so frustrating!

thehonscupboard · 16/07/2025 20:25

All sound reasons for going with your first choice. Good luck getting the after school sorted. The school day seems so short after nursery!
