Is it necessary to have studied ballet and instrument for a chance to get in?

Yes and Latin.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 01/04/2025 17:50

No, just have a passion for your subject and get really good grades and be lucky in an interview.

Boligrafo · 01/04/2025 17:50

April Fool?

Don’t be daft.

and don’t be so daft to be posting about it for your primary age child.

I'm not sure where you've heard that, but no - definitely not!!

Hoggyhoghog · 01/04/2025 17:53

Carpe diem

Cancelthebreak · 01/04/2025 17:54

And you need to have been born with a plum up your arse. HTH

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 01/04/2025 17:56

Absolutely.

Also, please make sure your child’s teddy is called Aloysius.

Whereas I went to Oxford and rowed precisely once in a scratch boat where we almost capsized…😀 (But we always went to the boat-burning when boatie friends were Head of the River.)

And, OP, assuming this isn’t some kind of joke, no. Oxford has zero interest in your hobbies, except insofar as serious achievement in them might indicate, along with very high academic achievement, that you’re capable of working to a high level in more than one thing without undue stress. If you’re called for interview, along with a slew of other clever kids, they’re purely interested in whether you will respond to the style of teaching.

Please just look at the University websites, they make everything absolutely crystal clear. Then look at you tube. The only requirement is to be passionate about your subject and yes, get lucky enough to be picked for interview. Once at interview they are only interested in how a candidate thinks - ds had 3 interviews and was only asked one question that was not about his subject. And that was a 'warm up' question.

They sometimes allow tap dance instead of ballet for contextual offers

True. Never street dance though. <shudder>

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 01/04/2025 18:05

@Boligrafo boat burning!

actually @MumMother82 a bit of casual arson would probably come in far more useful than ballet and instruments…

So bottle fed recommended as a good start for Cambridge?

Oh, nothings the same as it was! Next you’ll be telling me that they allow Morris or breakdance!
