If so what times does it run, how much is it and is there a waiting list and if yes how did you get on it (through the teacher? named contact etc). Also what ages is it for?
My friend is thinking of setting one up next Sept is asking me to ask you wise old lot

Glasgow City Council runs a breakfast Club (edcall the Big Breakfast) at all its schools. It starts at 8.15 and finished at 8.45 and the kids go into the playground for the last 15 minutes before the school bell. (The janitor then watches them in the playground: he is responsible for supervising the playground).

As far as I am aware, the dinner ladies do the supervision. Any age can go and you don't need to book. In practice, at ds' primary school, there are only about 30 (I think) out of a roll of 220 that go. P1s tend not to go - although ds started going in January of P1 (equvalent of Y2) 'cos dh was away and I need to get to work and he has continued going ever since at his insistence.

Yes - it starts at 7.30 (school starts at 8.30). You have to register the child/ren in advance, but then they can use it as little or often as necessary. For each session you pay £1.50 per child which covers 3 or 4 items from the breakfast menu (toast, cereal, eggs, beans, juice etc). It is available for all ages (infants and juniors) and as far as I know there's no waiting list.

I've not used it yet, so can't offer much more info, but HTH anyway!

DD's prep school has a breakfast club. School starts at 8:30am, and breakfast club starts from 7:45pm, charging £2 a morning.

It is available to all the girls, from reception to Y6.

You can either sign up for regular sessions each term and pay all in one go, or you can use it more adhoc on a pay as you go basis, so long as you let them know a couple of days or so in advance.

You just speak to the teacher for adhoc, or a form comes out at the start of term for the up front arrangement.

I do not have a problem with breakfast clubs or indeed after school clubs.

I do have an issue if they are being used at both ends of the day.

It makes the child's day impossibly long and then you have to ask yourself, when does the dreaded homework get done ??

pointydog · 13/05/2008 21:52

If both parents work, then they often have to be used at both ends of the day.

Never had a problem getting homework done.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 13/05/2008 21:54

PD

Probably best we agree to diagree.

ReallyTired · 13/05/2008 21:54

My son's school has a breakfast club and they charge £2.20. You book it as you need it.

My son goes to after school club every day and only occassionally goes to breakfast club. Even then our after school club finishes at 5pm.

BreeVanderCampLGJ, I agree that it makes a long day for young children, but not everyone lives ideal lives.

"when does the dreaded homework get done ?? "

Saturday morning and reading gets done here and there.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 13/05/2008 22:11

Ours comes home on Monday, back on Thursday morning.

Ours starts at 8.15 and goes till 8.45. No need to book or register. The kids turn up, pay 25p and can have a drink, cereal or toast. If they want an extra thing, it's another 10p. Kids from p1 - p7 go.

We have breakfast at school. It can be used for anyone from Nursery to Y13 and staff. It seems to be most popular amongst Y5 and 6. I think they the Juniors have to go there if they are early for school, whereas anyone else can just go to their classrooms, although only Sixth Form and staff are allowed to take food out.

posieflump · 14/05/2008 20:17

that's my worry LGJ - I need to work 16 hours a week over 2 days - can't put dd into nursery for more than 2 days. i can't fit the hours in without trying to use these clubs on those 2 days

shinyshoes · 14/05/2008 21:34

Yes, it starts at 8.00am and costs £1.10. and is open to all year groups

Its free for year 6's this week as its SATS week.

Needless to say he's been going everyday

shinyshoes · 14/05/2008 21:34

no waiting list just turn up

Oliveoil · 14/05/2008 21:36

so a child could be at school from 7.30am till 6pm or thereabouts

that is a long day

dd1 is knackered at 3.30pm

maybe for older children but a bit much for reception surely?

Sidge · 14/05/2008 21:38

Yes, DD1s junior school does a breakfast club - the infants from the infant school on the same site access it too.

It runs from 0745-0845 and costs £2.20. They get unlimited juice, milk or water, toast and various cereals. There are also activities and in the summer they can play in the playground.

Just turn up and pay, as long as you've registered previously.

hoxtonchick · 14/05/2008 21:38

ours starts at 8am (school starts at 8.55). costs £1.50. ds has been about 3 times (he's in year 1) & loves it. in fact, we needed him to go today but i hadn't booked him in, so i rang up at 8 & they said sure, bring him in .

kid · 14/05/2008 21:39

There is a breakfast club at my DCs school. It starts at 7:45 and costs £1. Its open to all children, they eat and then play board games until school starts.
My DC don't go, only because they would never ever get there on time!

Flame · 14/05/2008 21:46

Yup.

Doors open at 8am, serve from about 8.15am. School starts 9am.

£1.50, going up to £1.70 after half term. Eat as much as they like cereal/toast, only one hot meat choice though apparently (bacon/sausage) but DD eats so much and is always still going strong after the others, they give her the leftovers too

Pick up a form from reception, you select which days you want.

No waiting list here, only about 20 there at most I would say.

Starts from reception age.

Bree - DD asked to go to after school club two nights a week (finishing 5.30ish), and some days she wants to do breakfast club the same day. I feel incredibly snubbed, but she loves it.
