DD1 said the Science was harder than she expected. She is relieved to have it over and quite looking forward to English tomorrow.

DS2 thought the science was ok.

He's not looking forward to the English tomorrow.

I'm actually quite concerned as my ds, year 6, came home and said that all the questions were 1 mark questions. Has anybody else heard this. I think he must have misread the questions.

Tinker · 12/05/2008 22:03

Mine's been very quiet about it all . She's crap at spelling so won't enjoy tomorrow.

Posey · 12/05/2008 22:05

I think science in dd's school was generally felt to be okay.
Her favourite subject is English so cool about tomorrow.

Her school have been very good about keeping the children from getting over-stressed. They shouldn't be stressed about exams in primary school.

chirpycherrycake · 12/05/2008 22:05

Our Head apparently said later in the day she was very disappointed by 5 of the pupils tests today. DS felt they were harder than all the past papers they had looked at.
Oh well. Not many days to go.

Blandmum · 12/05/2008 22:06

DDs comment' Fine, it was easy, and they are more for the school than for us anyway'

mrspnut · 12/05/2008 22:07

Science was fine apparently, she said she answered all the questions and she's fairly confident about her answers.

She's not looking forward to spelling and writing tomorrow as much because it's her weaker subject.

smartiejake · 12/05/2008 22:42

I thought some of the questions were very ambiguous and unclear. Some of them seemed rather contrived.

It's far too much though having 2 science tests in one morning. Also think writing and spelling tests before and after break tomorrow is far too much.

SNoraWotzThat · 12/05/2008 22:47

dd2 year 4 said she had a SATS question

What would melt metal?
Hairdryer, Oven or Volcano

she was telling DH and said, it would depend on how hot the oven could heat up to and if the volcano was active or not.

As you say ambiguous and unclear!

AbbeyA · 13/05/2008 07:10

Some of the questions were a bit ambiguous, if you look on the TES website you can see some of the funny childlike answers. I was invigilating and the children seemed happy with it, they all finished before the end.
The writing and spelling, before break today, won't be too much. It is the short writing paper and they only get 20 minutes. The spelling takes 10 minutes.

leosdad · 13/05/2008 09:02

If a child does not sit one of the tests for any reason does it make a difference to the schools overall percentage when it comes to those league tables, ie illness, school deciding not to enter a child as they are not able enough to get level 4, being removed from exam for taking in notes as some boys in DD's school did.

I hope it does as will annoy head teacher without making any effect on the individual child's education

leosdad · 13/05/2008 09:03

ps could not get DD to say whether or not she had enjoyed/hated test had more to say about these lads with answers written on their sleeves

ecoworrier · 13/05/2008 10:00

My son came home and said it was really easy - then he laughed and said he shouldn't have said that in case he didn't do well!

He's just not bothered about any of it, really laid back, which is the best way. He's more pleased because the Year 6 children get double playtime every morning this week!

mumoftwo37 · 13/05/2008 10:11

Ecoworrier mine said the same. Ours are having long writing this am and then having a break with art. After lunch they are doing spelling and long writing.
He cam home happier than he went to school and was much happier this morning.
Hope everyone's DCs do well.

OrmIrian · 13/05/2008 11:43

Science - easy. Apparently But the number of practice papers they've done they should be.

Literacy - will be a different matter. DS#1' writing is scruffy and inconsistent so he could produce a page of deathless prose and the examiner still wouldn't be able to read it.

PussinWellies · 13/05/2008 12:01

Oh thanks, whoever suggested the TES website -- have just wasted half an hour in giggles!

'Why isn't a fish a producer?' 'because a producer makes its own food and a fish can't cook.'

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 12:04

ds seemed to think Science was ok...he liked the special breakfast before school - 2 croissants apparently
English is one of his best subjects so he won't mind that one.

OrmIrian · 13/05/2008 12:04

My DS won't go the the breakfast thing. I thought he'd love it but he prefers another 3o mins in bed.

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 12:23

it's the croissants that swayed ds !

OrmIrian · 13/05/2008 16:34

Didn't like the literacy papers much. But wouldn't talk about it. No surprise there then.

bellavita · 13/05/2008 16:43

My DS1 said they were ok.

DS1's friend is not very well. Mum sent him to school yesterday - under the weather, but today he was worse. She sent him in and rang the school to say he wasn't 100%, but she had got a dr's appointment for him this pm and she would pick him up at lunchtime.

The dr said he should not be in school as he has full blown tonsillitis (sp) and he should not go in for the rest of the week even if he is doing SATS. He offered to write a note to the Head to that effect.

Mum rang school to say son would not be in. The Head has told her one of the teachers will be round at 9.30am to her house for the next three days so he can still sit his papers

The child is not well - very clearly not well as he is usually so talkative and jumping around full of beans and he is just lying there on the settee.

unknownrebelbang · 13/05/2008 16:43

Spellings, hmm, not good.

Short paper, ok.

Long paper, hmm.

smartiejake · 13/05/2008 16:55

Spellings were hard especially as my deaf kids didn't know what half of them meant!

The short writing where they had to write about their school year memories was funny. Mine all wrote it like it was a pupil view annual review form!

Long paper was very unfair. They have only looked at biographies once and most kids (let alone deaf ones) have not really had enough experience of this type of writng to make a really good job. Why can't they just let them write a story FGS!

PuppyMonkey · 13/05/2008 16:58

DD2 reckoned science was "easy" too... oh dear. Haven't seen her yet this pm as she's at a friend's til later. It doesn't matter anyway does it?
