Recent views on Pembridge, Brighton College, Thomas, Ken Prep?

Hi all - we are looking at an array of choices for our daughter for reception with 2 single gender schools (Pembridge Hall and Ken prep) and 2 coeds (Thomas Kensington and Brighton college Kensington ). I’d be curious to hear from existing parents at these schools. I know that all these schools evolve and change in a regular basis (Pembridge and Thomas seem to be making a push to become more academic with the new heads, Ken prep has had some leadership issues, Brighton is new so perhaps less proven). We are looking for an academic environment that can stretch and develop her, but one that still takes into account individuality and well being

Interested in recent Ken Prep perspectives too, given the mixed reviews I’ve heard

Is there a reason Notting Hill Prep isn't here ? I know they have a new head with an impressive CV.

Falkner House seem to tick all the boxes - small nurturing school with great results

Sunchaser05 · 05/03/2025 21:36

We didn’t get Falkner house and ruled out NhP based off them being the least academic of the lot/ worse results. The new head is very strong and will push academics but i suspect that will take some time. The premises aren’t that great either but that was secondary

My eldest is thriving at Thomases Kensington. The prep prep head is excellent and the new school building is going to be a great addition to the already attentive staff

Thomas's Kensingt feels like it's on the up of the curve right now and the addition of the senior school also adds some security.

Only note, and general POV is girls exit schools are good and getting better, the boys exits needs to improve (new head should help with that)

Hi, may I ask where you ended up? I’d be really grateful for any insights on KP.

Sunchaser05 · 26/01/2026 16:35

Hi! We turned KP down, heard too many mixed views not just from here but also via our network from patents with children there, especially for the older years.

we went for Thomas Kensington and we are very happy, our daughter is striving, both on academic and socially.

pm me for more details if you’d like

I’m an ex-student at Ken Prep. Please do not send your children there. I was bullied so severely to the point I developed severe anxiety and PTSD from the experience. I left a few years ago to PGP and from what I’ve heard Ken Prep has only gotten worse. I had a student kick me with a chair in a bday party, my mum accidentally got it on video, took it to the school and they refused to do absolutely anything. To make matters worse, I heard a story of a girl in another year who had a chair thrown at them and got injured. I know I wasn’t the only student unhappy there as my mum was told quite a story of a girl a year older than me. PGP was an excellent school and I highly recommend it.

We are considering with NHP , Thomas’s Kensington or Norland Place. Our daughter is 4 yrs old and would like to pick a school which has a balance of both academics and creativity/ individuality. Only issue with Thomas is that they don’t offer wrap around care and finish school at 3.15pm.
Any feedback is welcome. Thank you

That’s only for reception which finishes at 3.25, from year 1 there are clubs but don’t know about wraparound. There is also a sibling waiting room until 3.45

so far we feel that Thomas has a very good balance between academics and creativity, as well as strong emphasis on wellbeing values and very responsive teachers and staff. Happy to share more if you have specific Qs

Not sure how to send a direct message on here but thanks for those insights they were very helpful.
We will shortly make our decision but definitely leaning towards Thomas’s. I loved their new building and everyone seemed so kind at the school.
