Worcester prep schools

We wanted to get the inside views on prep schools in Worcester.

They all market themselves as academic, full of extra-curricular opportunities and happy children but obviously without external exams it's hard to tell.

We loved the small family feel of Springfield when we looked around but obviously that is now out of the equation with the move to be a nursery.

Grange - flashy facilities and iPads everywhere, but felt more like a secondary school than a nurturing school for young children
Hawford - looks an idyllic childhood, but is it academically strong and does it prepare them for the 'real world'
St Alban's - is this the more academic option? Didn't get a strong sense of identity from the school

Any thoughts gratefully received! It's hard to make such an important choice based on a quick tour.

Hawford.
and St Albans are both Kings School Preps. Hawford is small with a more caring personalised ethos I think and out of town so suits a lot of people. Its suited the child of a relative very well. I don’t think there is much difference academically it depends what will suit the child.

Agree with PP. Bowbrook is also worth a look if you liked Springfield, slightly out of Worcester (Peopleton so around a 15 min drive) Bowbrook House School Infants EYFS | small classes | Worcestershire

Ah yes. I used to live across the road from Bowbrook . It was a lovely school. Our neighbours daughter went there and loved it. It doesn’t have a sixth form though for future reference .

Thanks everyone. Hadn't considered Bowbrook but may be worth a look. Think we are leaning towards Hawford but just not sure!

Do you have a preference for either Kings or RGS for secondary? Might this guide your choice now?

I have heard excellent things about Bowbrook for secondary.

What I would say is that Kings is going and has gone through a rocky period. They’ve had a Head who died suddenly, followed by a disastrous Head who was essentially sacked. They have a new Head starting in Sept who is unproven so far. All those things make a very big difference to how the school runs.

Hello,

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could share their experience of Bowbrook House School, particularly from Year 5 onwards. I’m considering enrolling my son and would like to know more about the academic support the school provides, as well as the range of extracurricular activities available.

I’d also be interested to hear how welcoming the school is to children who join later rather than starting in the early years—does it feel inclusive, or are there established social groups that are hard to break into?

Finally, how does the school approach diversity and inclusion in everyday school life?

Thank you in advance!

my neighbour sent their daughter there and she loved it. I have never heard anything negative about it but it doesn’t have a sixth form.

Pershore High School is a good option for sixth form.
