So what does your school do?
What about those dcs who are very fair?
dc1 in reception and burnt today, this will be ongoing as younger sibs follow through.

Any idea how I can get school to help apply it?
I'm guessing it's only going to get hotter....

It is down to two things. Time and complaints.

First, Time. A class of 30 kids, assuming it takes 30 to 'cover' them, is 15 minutes of teacher time. Assuming that the teacher is lucky and has a classroom assistant of some sort (and not all do), that is still 7.5 minutes of a break which most staff will spend preparing for the next lesson, and if they are very lucky squeezing in a cup of tea and a much needed pee. You will also have the kids detained until they can leave, which will make some kids very unhappy which brings me to

Complaints.

The 30 sec per child is not taking into account that the staff would have to wash their hands between applications to avoid the risk of causing problems for kids with allergies/ spreading skin diseases. Imagine how upset you'd be if you child came back home with a skin rash because the wrong cream had been used.....actually we don't need to imagine because people have posted this on MN, and tbh, I see their point.

People will complain that their kids don't get out into the sun fast enough, and this affects their child's behavior (also complained about on MN and again I can see their point)

And then can you imagine the uproar if a teacher 'Missed a bit' and the child had some sun burn. THe members of MN would be instantly demanding that the teacher was reported to the LEA and probably tarred and feathered

and there is the 'no touching' thing as well. But for most staff it is down to simple logistics.

Lots of parents don't think through he logic of 30 sec per child, 30 children = 15 minutes, because (understandably) they are only thinking of their child.

Teaching makes you see things in a different way.

Immagine having a birthday party and making some kids wait 7 minutes becfore they got to go and play! That would be stressful, no? Well, it is sort of like that at break time....and I work in secondary! God knows how stressful it must be in primary!
