School uniform trousers that don't fall down...

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience of a primary school trouser brand (in grey) that doesn't fall down? DS6 is slim, small for his age (age 5-6 is good for leg length) and however hard I pull in the adjustable waist (we are at the point where he can only just do up the silver clip at the front), he is flashing his pants by the end of the day. I think his bottom is too flat to hold anything up...! We have tried slim fit, slim waist, and not found a solution yet.

We have tried M&S, Next and Tu so far. Might anyone know what we can try next?

Thank you!

My 6yo has this problem. Next slim fit were the best but they still slid down. We have now given him belts.

Second next skinny fit and slim waist.

Ooh, I hadn't thought about longer length in a smaller size. And I haven't given Asda a try yet. Thank you, adding to the list!

We had the fully elasticated ones when he started but as he got bigger they added the clasp fronts, which don't seem to help.

We always went down a size and opted for the extra long, extra slim/skinny range.

DS doesn't look particularly skinny, but trousers continue to be a nightmare and pajamas are impossible.

Did you use a stretchy fabric/elastic-type belt, or a full leather one? I think DS would need training on a buckle in a leather belt but I hadn't thought of belts at all, so definitely worth a gander. Thank you!

We got a few and in the end he seems to find the leather one best. He is 6 though, but the problem doesn’t seem to go away so there’s not harm buying a few and trying now I’d think.

Dd has extra long and size down in slim fit m and s. You can also unpick m and to extend them so sometimes we've downsized more than one age.

M&S 'extra long' has been a lifesaver. Our DC is very slim, so we get the skinny fit and go down a size or even two.

Thank you so much everyone - tomorrow I await a delivery of extra-long trousers a size down and a funky belt or two!

My DS wears girls jersey trousers that are pull on. We have done similar to others and sized down but gone for longer length. They aren't obviously girly when wearing them, apart from a metal star 'charm' on the front, but he likes this!

I second the pull-on jersey trousers, M&S do them. No idea why they just have them in the girls’ section, kids’ body shapes are similar in primary school and boys like to be comfortable just as much as girls.

Go for size of child waist rather than age. Our DS was in age 14 extra long with the hems undone, just the stitching hemmed under and the original hem creases steam ironed out. That was aged 16. At 5 I managed to find some age 2 uniform like trousers. At 6, he wore elastic backed trousers taken in very slightly each side. I've no idea why that worked better than adjustable waist trousers

M&S have slim fit, they have adjustable waist buttons inside, so you can tighten them if they’re too loose still.
