World Book Day - Year 6

ellaballoo · 28/01/2025 19:02

I am a year 2 teacher .
We have been allocated a class to read to on World Book Day and I’ve got year 6.
Has anyone got any ideas of something fun and short that will appeal to 11 year olds
Thanks

This might appeal: Jack Beechwhistle: Attack of the Giant Slugs g.co/kgs/DdnicHx

His chapters are short and normally end on a cliffhanger so you can read part of it.

I still read the short stories by Paul Jennings when I take Year 6 classes. A lot of them take only about 10 minutes to read aloud and they always have an ingenious twist. His volume ‘Unbelievable’ has a number of Y6-friendly stories but all his collections have some gems.

Thank you, have put them both in my Amazon basket.
this could prove very expensive!

They could come in handy if your Head decides that a couple of years in Upper KS2 would be good for your professional development. My favourite story in Unbelievable is One Shot Toothpaste but there are others that go down well.
