Habs Girls (Elstree) Junior School feedback

Hi all,

My DD has received an offer from Habs Girls (Elstree) to start in Reception/Junior School in September 2025.

We’re planning to accept the offer as we feel her current independent (non-selective) school isn’t stimulating her enough. However, I’m a bit concerned after reading several posts here describing a very toxic environment at Habs Girls, with mentions of eating disorders and mental health struggles (other similar schools don't have such a negative trail on here).

This is really confusing because during the open days, we got a completely different impression of the school. It came across as nurturing and supportive, not a super high-pressure jenvironment. The girls we saw seemed happy, confident, and content. Many teachers told us they are sending their own children there.

Could anyone with a daughter currently at Habs Girls give an honest and up-to-date perspective on what the school is like, particularly in the Junior School? I’d really appreciate any insight!

PM'd you. But in short, it's a brilliant school.

From what my friend have said, the children are pushed quite hard from reception with weekly spelling quiz, reading and homework sheets which require input from parents. Their kids enjoys the school though (she’s very bright and competitive).

Habs is lovely. In 2019 the governors made a huge mistake in their choice of head, morale plummeted a lot of the good staff left, and it is still recovering. The new head, who is in her second year, is great, and I'm certain that the school will continue to go from strength to strength. It's one of the less pressure cooker of the private schools.

If she's naturally highly academic there isn't a better school.

It’s a fantastic environment for a 4 year old. Agree that the school went through a very tough time from 2019 under a new head who has since moved on. Things have now improved. It’s very nurturing and my daughter is very happy.

No better school than Habs. Caters for the whole child, not just academia like other schools. Nurturing each child as individuals, the girls are happy and well-rounded. You only have to enter each classroom to hear the excited chatter and witness the learning happening around you. Delighted with my choice of school.

@Lapmum123 did you take the offer in the end?

We did! Direct feedback from parents were all great.
