So basically, I believe there has been some foul play when it comes to my child’s absences. I rang up at 8:30 Tuesday morning to inform them my daughter had had 2 seizures through the night (she’s epileptic) and she won’t be in, straight away they put her down as unauthorised absent !! So I rang back at 9:30 and kicked off as I’d also sent them video proof of her fitting at 3am that morning! Not that I should have to! Anyway, her teacher said this morning it was put down as earache and then it’s suddenly saying seizures 😬! I want to know if once you’ve submitted the reason of absence can it be changed ? As I’ve asked for all her absence reasons on the system and I believe someone changed it to cover their backs!! Thank you x

It certainly can be changed after it’s been input.

Soontobe60 · 16/01/2025 17:28

How did you find out what they had put for her absence? And also, please do not film your DD when she is having a seizure then send it in to school - highly inappropriate.

Frowningprovidence · 16/01/2025 17:29

Yes they can be changed as sometimes more accurate information comes in and people are human and make mistakes.

It certainly is not inappropriate when they ask for medical evidence every time she’s off!

Yes, our system allowed it to be changed after submission

JadeAnt · 16/01/2025 17:31

Ahh so they could of changed it knowing I’d asked to see what’s been put down for her, I have the welfare officers involved as there is a lot more to this but I just wanted to know if they could actually change it or not. Thank you

Yes they can change from authorised to unauthorised and vice versa
abd asking for medical evidence sadly is common when it reaches a certain level

You dont have to provide that. They should only be asking if they doubt the veracity of your claims. If they have evidence she's epileptic that should be enough www.ipsea.org.uk/faqs/my-childs-school-says-it-cant-authorise-her-absence-due-to-illness-because-i-havent-been-able-to-provide-a-letter-from-a-consultant-can-it-do-this
