Hello! Looking for views on anyone that moved out of state into st Dunstans at primary age- what has been your experience so far and is there much of a difference between the sectors (ie is it worth the money!)

St Dunstans junior school is a cosy environment and it's very easy to buy into the ethos they push.
But if your rationale for putting your child into the JS is to simply guarantee transition to Senior School then beware for two reasons.

  1. The JS end up at Y5 with approx 20% of kids who are borderline, not guaranteed entry to Senior School.
  2. The culture has changed drastically since 2023. The purpose of the JS now is to provide academically inclined (meaning tutors on the side) fodder to the Senior School.
My honest opinion is save your money until Senior School. You'll need a tutor regardless whether you go state or St Dunstans. And the teaching at St Dunstans is no better than average. What they are selling is a lifestyle.

I would say my children are happy at the junior school. However, if your goal is for your child to move up to the senior school, it’s important to know that the transition is not guaranteed.
As with many schools, the quality of teaching can vary, there are some excellent teachers, and others less so. Overall, I’d describe the teaching as average. While the senior school has strong academic ambitions, these don’t always seem reflected in the junior school. In fact, many children at the junior level are tutored outside of school in order to secure a place in the senior school.
As mentioned, you could save a significant amount by choosing a good state school and starting tutoring early. That said, there are benefits to being in a private school setting – such as access to sports, swimming, and other extracurriculars.
One thing to note is that class sizes aren’t particularly small – around 25 children per class.

Last-Minute Opportunity – 2 Places at St Dunstan’s College

Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!
