Tv time(YouTube) everyday at little lunch

So I’ve recently found out that during little lunch for the 10/15 mins they have everyday that YouTube has been on everyday my son is in junior infants and is only 5. Shouldn’t schools be promoting that they don’t have to time during school times? I’m actually kinda frustrated that they’ve been playing it, I understand the odd time as a treat but not everyday.

i worked in early years setting for 3 years and we only let the children have to time once or twice a week

Little lunch is a cute name for playtime. Are you in Australia? Normally they go out to play on the playground at playtime in England.

What sort of thing are they watching on it? My Ta sometimes puts news round on for my class whilst they get ready for lunch

What's little lunch?
Are they eating a snack at that time? Or are they supposed to be out playing?

No I’m in Ireland lol we call it little lunch because they get a little snack and 15 mins break time at that time and then at big lunch they get 30mins yard time and hot lunch

They watch tom and Jerry, Bluey and scoobie doo is what my sons been coming home talking about and yes he gets to watch them at home but am I wrong in thinking they should be concentrating on eating

he often comes home saying he didn’t have time to eat because he was distracted

YouTube is quite vague because you can watch pretty much anything on it! If it’s Jolly Phonics, Numberblocks or similar then I’d have no issue whatsoever because they’re educational and it’s only 15 mins. If it’s an episode of Paw Patrol or random vloggers unboxing toys I’d be less than impressed.

X posted. Yes that’s shit and lazy of the school. I wouldn’t be happy either.

I wouldn't be impressed but I'm anti devices for children and very very limited TV. Sounds like they use it for crowd control.

YouTube while the kids eat is odd. I would be fine with some music playing but I’d rather my child chat to a peer rather than eat and watch something which is pretty lazy.

That’s what I was thinking too

I suspect they are using it as a way of managing behaviour. Perhaps children have been very noisy while eating their snack.
I don't agree with them showing the videos though. It would be better if the children chatted to each other and if they could do this quietly. There are better ways of managing behaviour than sticking a video on.

I would ask them about it. If they don’t feel there’s enough time to get ready to go outside etc they may say that the kids then talk all the time and don’t eat (a problem at my sons school at lunchtime and he’s much older!). As another poster said it may be a time they find is best for chilling in their experience rather than being rowdy but I’d be interested in hearing their story.
