Why do teachers do this?

During work particularly test at the end of the week (spellings/Maths). If a child answers incorrectly it gets rubbed out and they are told/prompted significantly to the correct answer and then it's marked correct?

I don't have an issue with teachers obviously helping the child to get the right answer but why cover up they got it wrong in the first place?

I don't know because I would never allow this. Work especially tests at the end of the week has to be a true reflection of their learning otherwise it is pointless.

Does the teacher not want to send home a test with a very low mark perhaps?(Which is wrong anyway)

I don't know any teachers who do this. The children correct in a different colour pen so it's obvious

That's how I feel it's like a constant cover up. I've had this throughout her primary education. Child has statement/EHCP but had to fight tooth and nail for this because her work wasn't a true reflection.

I moved her school with the new statement/EHCP recently and her CA was off today she got 0/10 in her maths test but had this corrected with teacher then all marked correct 🤷‍♀️

You would have to ask the teacher concerned about it. It's not all teachers.

Well it depends on how they are supported to get it right. Perhaps the teacher knows she knows the answer verbally but got it wrong when writing it down so a bit of jollying her along, a bit of rephrasing so she better understands the question is better for her than getting 0/10 on work that she does know and has demonstrated earlier in the week or in a different format.

You need to speak with the class teacher, but with us, we go through the answers/working with a child to show them a) how to do it again and b) to let them see that they have the skills. It is very much child oriented. The mark that is recorded will be the correct one (in this case 0).

I wonder if your view on this is tainted by bad experiences at the old school? It isn't certain that anyone is trying to cover up anything, and the best and only way to find out is by speaking with the class teacher. Obviously you have work to do with the school, if your assumption of wrong doing is correct!

That's what I wondered just seems odd to me

Usually a tick is put by a correct answer and a dot by an incorrect answer. The child then corrects it and gets a tick. No cover up!

This.

It's not something I'd be doing.
But then, I wouldn't be giving a child a test where they were likely to get 0 / 10 either. What is supposed to be gained from that ?
