What would you think of a primary school that regularly invited celebrities in to talk to pupils aged 2-11 about their life success? Think sportspeople, designers, Michelin starred chefs, singers...

I’d be concerned that the school placed value into the cult of celebrity.

This is exactly my concern - what are the values that the school is articulating by inviting so many celebrities to take to the stage in children's formative years?

There's a charity that organised visits from professionals (not necessarily celebs) to talk in schools, often in deprived areas.
My DH was asked to talk about his job once. Schools aren't charged.

If these are celebrities who are not being paid and have actually achieved something that's great. When my kids were at primary they had a visit from an Olympian who had attended their school and won a gold medal, she gave a brilliant talk along the lines of "I was just like you, if I can do it you can too" and they loved it.

If they are getting in reality TV stars and influencers I'd be less impressed.

Sounds like it's more to show off to the parents thank be beneficial for the kids!

Private school, one assumes.

So gotta justify those fees!

Schools (all state schools) I’ve worked in have had celebrities/well known figures regularly and it didn’t cost anything. Benjamin Zephaniah, George Galloway, Fearne Cotton, Sonali Shah, Shaun Wallace, Laura Turner-Alleyn to name a few. The Speakers for Schools programme is pretty good too

A relative of a friend of mine represented GB at the commonwealth games, they offered to do a talk at my DC school . I thought it would be really inspiring (she only asked that her travel was paid) I emailed the school about it and I didn't even get a thanks but no thanks email back! They occassionally had local authors yo talk at school.

I think the rags to riches speakers and ones who overcame great adversity in their lives are the most inspiring.

We had a Michelin starred chef come to the speech on awards day (free - most don't charge for these sort of things). He started well talking about how he discovered his passion for cooking and I was beginning to think this was going to be a good talk about finding your way in life and not to be afraid to try things out... but it quickly descended into basically a PR talk about his restaurant and his plans as if he was pitching to investors rather than a bunch of secondary students.
So as long as they direct their talk to their audience and how their journey could inspire them (not just to succeed in their field, but any field), then great! Also a mix of more prosaic professions as that's what the vast majority of kids will actually do, no matter how hard they work.
