Chorlton primary schools

Hi,

We are moving to Chorlton in South Manchester - love it there, and would love to hear your primary school experiences (good or any bad experiences especially re: SEN provision as so hard to get an honest view from web searches).

Our 7 year old son has SEN. He is sensitive and sweet but prone to anxiety about academic work. He has a diagnosis of autism and ADHD (inattentive) and benefits from a nurturing school. He is high masking and does not act out behaviourally, but he struggles internally with anxiety, as well as with making friends. Just a bit of reassurance and flexibility from staff seems to help him along really.

Thank you so much in advance for any feedback.

My friend has two children at Oswald Road. One of her sons has sensory processing issues, going through assessment for SEN. He has been loving Oswald Road, particularly as there is no uniform. We know two other sets of parents whose children are not SEN who loved the school too.

Avoid Manley Park. I have heard good things about Chorlton Park.

You might need to think about secondary schools. It will come round very quickly. If your son can pass the 11+ for Stretford, Urmston, Sale or Altrincham Grammars he will be fine. If he probably won't pass then you might need to make sure there is a comprehensive school you are happy with.

Thank you, yes it’s on my mind too. I feel like I know more about the higher school there than the primaries. I actually really like Chorlton High and think it’s a good school (unless anyone thinks otherwise I would be interested to hear so that I can make an informed choice). I am not sure grammar school is the right fit inclusivity wise for him even if he could get in to be honest. Great for some kids though I am sure.
