COE schools

Hi MNers

I'm not a Christian. But the only good schools are COE schools.

Will they still take my child? Or should I go to a far off non CoE school ?

Is there any discrimination against non Christians even if I am well within the radius.

East greater London location if that is relevant.

Thank you

Usually no discrimination at all towards non Christians you'll find. They're moving away from having church attendance on the admissions criteria. Good luck

You need to look at the Admissions policies of the individual schools. Some C of E schools will prioritise members of the Church but others, like the one my DC attended, don't mention religion in their admissions criteria at all and just use the standard LEA criteria. It will vary from schoo, toschool but should be available on the websites of the schools you're interested in.

The reason a lit of schools of CofE is because the church set up these schools before the government introduced free public education. The Church owns the land etc.

However, how religious these schools are vary. Some its just the local school. In others church attendance does play a part. You need to look at the actual school criteria.

Thank you so much for your replies.

Yes the two out of three require church attendance for six months and a signed something declaration of being a Christian. 😕

I'll just have to apply anyway and hope there's a space in the one of them.

Really appreciate your time and insight. Thanks
