Child led State school learning

Hi - been reading some posts on mumnet on scandic / monti etc focussed primary schools. I thought it worth sharing that in Scotland, we have a number of small to very small schools (total school enrolment can be under 40) with my son's school being only 13 children with teachers providing composite learning in the classroom for the P1 through to P7. In this environment, the head teachers have far more focus to provide a greater support and education that is tailored to the needs of the children due to the ratios. For children that need that greater understanding, being listened to and understood, yet still challenged, this can be a great way to find a middle ground between state and private provision. My son has benefited hugely, as he is dyslexic, and his school (as well as other smaller ones) have taken the time and effort to adjust their delivery to be dyslexic friendly and to set up the classroom to more montisseri child led focus to support all children as well my son. With a great emphasis in outdoor learning and activities to add to the curriculum, provided a wonderful way to provide STEM through to the standard subjects in a creative and gentler way. A number of the schools in Scotland are now moving to this method, and it is proving successful. Its also worth noting that older children take a role in supporting the younger ones, which does not happen in the larger schools, and this fosters a much stronger social bond, and connection for pupils and the school as a whole. I live in Argyll and Bute, but we are accessible from Glasgow. As many state schools are so under pressure and the ratios are just not working anymore, the smaller schools are still beacons of support to those that need that little more... If any one would like to know more, feel free to message me. :)
