Primaray School / Waiting List / Appeal

Dear mums,

We have moved from London to Langley recently.
My child will start going to Reception.

We made an application called "Late Application"
with 3 schools names.

1st two are very much near to us & are very good & also at just 5 min walk from us,
but unfortunately Slough Borough Admission Department has allocated him in a school which is not so good + far from us.
My current health situation doesn't allow me to go so far on the daily basis by walk, the use public transport is also not possible for me because we can't afford it & I don't drive unfortunately !!!

We have tried so many times to call at council but nobody picks up the fone & it gets transferred on the answer mashine.

We have also submitted a complaint for "admission complaints department" & received a reply saying in that we have to wait for the next 14 days for the response.
Meanwhile we have been offered a place at the school about which I have already mentioned in the beginning that it is not near to us & it is also not a good school.

Please mums help me! Give me a good advice please!

What would you have done if you would have been at my place?

How to get out of this tricky situation 😔

Could you get a job now DC is starting school? That would give more money for bus fares and down the line, driving lessons etc

i believe and hope the usual knowledgeable people show up to the thread.
you accept and attend the school that you were allocated.
meanwhile call and confirm you are still on the wait lists for the preferred two.
from having read many of these, your financial situation and health are rarely factors that will lead to a quick change.

If the place allocated is more than 2 miles from home by the shortest safe walking route, the LA must provide free transport. However, that is only for your child and could take the form of a bus pass.

I'm afraid you don't have any right to a good school and an appeal on the basis that the allocated school is not good and/or is too far from home will fail. As this is for Reception, any appeal is likely to be an infant class size case. That means you can only win if a mistake has been made or the decision to refuse admission is unreasonable. You can certainly try an appeal, but you need to understand that it is highly unlikely you will win.

I wish I could be more positive, but the rules make it very difficult for parents with children in Reception, Y1 or Y2 who move to a new area.
