Christmas at primary school

Hi, can anyone let me know what to expect at Christmas in year 2 at primary school? We’ve been told there will be no nativity and I’m wondering at what age this ends. Also what is in place of a nativity if anything.
thanks!

Every school is different. Could be anything! Possibilities:
Carol singing
Class party
Making cards/calendars
Christmas jumper day
School Christmas dinner
Watch a film
Visit from Father Christmas
Christmas fair
There's probably other things. Most schools will have at least one of the above but it's up to staff/pta.

We only had the nativity in reception. After that it was a 'Christmas play'.

Every school will be completely different .
My daughters primary never did a Nativity Play - just a different play each year. Randomly Year 4 were the main actors and each of the other years took turns to do a song.
(Nursery and Reception just did an assembly for parents with "winter songs")
I am not a religious person but I feel quite sad my daughter never did a Nativity 🙁

My DD school only do nativity (or any Christmas play) in Year 2. At Christmas they normally have Christmas jumper day, Christmas lunch day, often a trip to church for christingle (my DD is atheist but likes the sweets!) and maybe class party at end of term. My DSC used to do a nativity every year at the local church. Every school is different and each school will also change over the years so its just a case of wait and see what the offer is this year.

Varies hugely by school. At my children’s school it’s a nativity in reception then a Christmas concert or play in each of the other years. It’s not a faith school if that makes any difference. They do a Christmas jumper day, not sure about a Christmas party as such and I think all year groups go to a pantomime or external concert of some kind.

Our school does:
Nativity (can be just KS1, with KS2 doing another production, or the whole school, depending on numbers)
Christmas Lunch Day
Christmas Jumper Day
Design a card

This year the PTA hope to do a panto trip, and a family Christmas Bingo / Quiz event.

Small school, around 65 pupils at the moment,

No nativity or show
christmas jumper day
christmas lunch day
the kids do a Christmas assembly but not for parents
church service first thing on the last day….parents can attend if they want …teachers then walk kids back to school
they bring a Christmas card home that they’ve made at some point

Our school only does a nativity in year 2, rest of the years don't do a play at all at Christmas. They do them at various other times of school

Nobody can give you a definitive answer as to when children will stop partaking in a 'nativity' as all schools are different. There are vastly different size schools, which will dictate how they they things, and different beliefs and ways of doing things.

Some very small school may perform just one play with all children from Reception to Year 6 involved. Larger schools will often break into Key Stages or even Year groups to perform different shows. Some will only do it in Reception/Key Stage 1. Some will only perform Christmas shows/concerts in Key Stage 2.

Some schools will have religious elements to their Christmas play (ie a traditional nativity or modern variation of one) - I'd say CofE and Catholic schools are pretty much guaranteed to go down to religious route, other schools it completely depends on ethos. Some will do a panto style performance, or generic play instead.

As I said, it totally depends on individual schools so the only people who can answer your question is those who run your child's school. You could ask them, but I'm pretty sure they'll tell you soon enough what the plan is. Or you could ask parents with older children in the school if they can remember what their child did in Year 2.

We only do the nativity in Reception class.
We alternate the ks1 and Ks2 show later in the year instead of Christmas.l think it is ks1 this year.
Christingle, Christmas party,
Santa brings everyone a book.
