Richmond vs Haringey

Hi all,

I wish to get some advise here. I’m likely to move to London next year with 3yo and 7yo. I’m struggling between Richmond vs Haringey. Both got good primary and secondary school.

Richmond: barns primary, deer park, Waldegrave etc..
Haringey: musewell hill primary, Rhodes, Fortismere.

In terms of the transportation, we are generally fine cos they are within 1 hr journey to central London.

my questions are:

  1. whether you will go for Richmond or Haringey? And why?
  2. anything I should also consider? Any special things about these two location?

thanks so much!

I would go on housing costs but otherwise how much will you be disturbed by noise of the flight path in Richmond?

Schools wise you have lots of choice in Richmond, East Sheen, twickenham, st Margaret's and teddington plus Kingston.

In London people tend to focus on neighbourhood areas rather than boroughs, as theres such huge differences within boroughs.

So Crouch End is very different from say Tottenham, both in Haringey

Fulwell is very different from Richmond park, both in Richmond.

Thanks all for your advise, really helpful.

The reason why I considered haringey is that it has good primary school and as well as near to Barnet (BHS, QE boy). If my kid can’t go to those grammar schools, still allow them to have a good secondary school within the catchment. Of cos, there are good school in Richmond too. I heard something good about these two areas.

I have narrowed down to a few places. it’s a debate between twickenham/st Margaret VS coldfall, Alexandra park/ muswell hill. But looks like the former is desirable.

The re-location is due to the company re-structure with some housing allowance and hence a bit flexible in the budget. I have been to London for few times, but mainly in business districts, hence asking for advise for the residential area. Thanks!

Used to live near Hornsey High St. It was a lovely place to be. Ally Pally, Priory Park.
My eldest attended Campsbourne for Nursery and Reception and loved it.

@Barnet9876 , go for twickenham, fast trains to London and lots of schools to choose from depending on where you rent. You also have the grammar option of Tiffin which is the same as QE.

Richmond if you don’t mind the plane noise. It’s greener, has the river and has a wide choice of great schools and amenities- Kew Gardens, Richmond Park, etc and significant retail shops as well.

Haringey as a borough is more central and diverse, so it would be my preferred area. But MH isn't on the tube so it's not an area I'd consider, although the schools are great. I am not sure you'd get your 7yo into the most popular schools though (in either area).
