Kumon at home only

I am looking at starting Kumon maths with my DS. I can't afford or justify spending £ on a centre.

My DS is about to go into YR2. According to year end report and direct feedback from his teacher he is at the right level with no issues.

I want to start Kumon to increase his confidence. He seems to know most of the answers but crumbles under the time pressure, so I guess repetition and Kumon are what he needs. I just don't know where to start and how to manage it.

As far as I can see I can buy worksheets on Amazon. I believe I need Grade 1 (?). Do I then need to do one for additions and one for subtraction in the same sitting/different days or do I need to finish one first and then move to another one?

I found lots of YouTube tutorials explaining benefits etc but none like a dummy guide what to actually do.

Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't looked at Kumon for a few years so it might have changed, but it used to have a reputation for being boring rote learning without encouraging wider thinking.

Why are you so keen on Kumon? Have you considered other options such as workbooks (which don't sound very exciting but some will be more attractive than Kumon!) or online maths games? Or even some maths-focussed board games or dice games?

I don't really mind what it is as long as it works. The only reason I looked st Kumon was thru recommendation of a colleague who's child was attending Kumon Centre and it worked out really well for them. I think my DS would enjoy math games but he has access already to Numberbots and barely plays it.

I am not familiar with Kumon but have you looked at Mathsfactor. It helped my daughter be confident at maths and quick with calculations. The topics follow the National curriculum . Each lesson has an explanatory video and practice questions with lots of repetition. You can often get a free trial if you want to test it out.

@user1489844432 did you end up going for Kumon? What is your feedback. Sorry to hijack the post but would love to hear if you saw any progress.

@MoonriseKingdom I have heard about Mathsfactor a couple of times. Is it an app or browser based?
My 6yo is bright little girl and according to school reports is where she should be in Maths and everything else but for some reason she has got it in her head that she cant do Maths and her confidence is really shaken past few weeks so much so that she is refusing to go to school. Would really like to help her feel more confident about. I have a toddler and full time jobs so really struggling to get anything more in.

https://www.themathsfactor.com/
it’s a website, they have a free trial period so you can see if she gets on with it. It starts at Year 1 level although you can choose where your child starts if they are older. You have a parents login as well so you can track how they are doing and see how it maps to the National Curriculum.

No I haven't in the end, no particular reason. The school provides access to Numbots app so this is what we using for now.
