DD taking 11+ on Tuesday — when does she stop studying?

DD has been studying for 11+ this summer (and not at all before then). She has had a tutor once a week and would do a mock exam and maybe a little bit of homework in between. She also had some camps, etc. so we weren’t going so hard with it. However, starting this Monday, we’ve been very intense, working about 6 hours per day (obviously with plenty of breaks, but it’s still a load of work) as a last ditch attempt to prep as the exam is Tuesday afternoon.

Should we continue intense prep through Friday, take the weekend off, and then just do a bit of reviewing on Monday? Not really sure as I don’t want to burn her out, but already she has shown a lot of improvement the past 3 days.

TBH I don’t think she will pass the exam. However, she is not wildly off the mark, so I think it’s possible she could pass if she has a good day.

Thoughts?

I'd say a bit of down time will be just as valuable as last minute prep. Reassure her that it's hard and it's no reflection on her if she doesn't pass. And just tell her you are proud of her for giving it a go. Good luck!

I’ve tried to be very supportive and let her know that the result really doesn’t matter — but of course I’ll continue to say that!

Therefore, would you agree on studying hard through Friday and then basically break until the exam?

I think that sounds fine!

Just curious on why she only started studying this summer? Did you decide to do 11+ last minute? I think it depends on the dc. The advice is they should have a break the day before the exam, but my dd did not want a complete break and instead preferred to do a mock. I would not spend hours the day before, but if the dc wanted to revise a little, I think that is fine. If it were my ds, he would def be happy to do nothing the day before.

We thought we’d be moving out of the area, but did not in the end. However, we still may and, therefore, didn’t want to put her through so much prep possibly for nothing. She’s quite bright so we decided to give it a go over the summer, but I think it’s probably a bit too little too late, though it’s possible she’ll get through with some exceptionally good luck on the day!
