Hi, LO starts school this year and we need to use wraparound provision, have just discovered that this might not accept Tax Free Childcare- just wondering how common this is? I was a bit surprised

I think ours DOES - but I'm waiting for a reply to an email about how to actually set it up. The government site makes me rage with its complication.

(I had it set up for nursery which invoiced monthly, but can't figure out how to make it work with primary school which uses ParentPay weekly!)

Any Ofsted registered setting can register to accept TFC payments, once they have set themselves up it's no disadvantage/extra effort to offer it- I've never come across a provider who doesn't.

@LividSummers your end it would work the same, from the same account you used for nursery, just with the school added as the setting and you'd have to log in weekly to put in the amount and submit (which doesn't take long at all). You shouldn't need to re-register or anything, even if the school uses parent pay, if they are registered then you'd pay through the portal and they'd sort out the receiving part!

Urgh. It doesn't look like they are ofsted registered, its an external provider..

Our school does, but they’ve made the process very difficult and you also have to pay for a whole term in advance, and no amendments can be made. I get the feeling that they’ve made the process as hard as possible in the hope that parents choose not to use it, they seemed most put out when I persisted!

Are you sure? They should still be ofsted registered even if a private provider? I'd be a bit worried personally if they weren't!

TowellingLife · 14/08/2024 14:33

If not registered they'll be claiming they don't provide childcare, just an activity - which is crap and not what you want especially for a 5 year old ... Definitely avoid.

wtftodo · 14/08/2024 14:33

Our school does, but only since I told them about it and sent some official info about how to set it up. It took a term or so to get it up and running.

This is the provider- they cover loads of different schools (franchise I think?) - any thoughts appreciated? They seem to be ofsted registered against only a handful of schools.

Ours do, it's a bit of a pain as you have to send over the money from the TFC account, then email them saying how much and the reference number and what sessions you want it against (breakfast, after early, after late) and then a few days later it gets added to your school account to pay for wraparound.

Ah if it's a club doing sports then explains the lack of registration, unfortunately means you won't be able to do TFC which is annoying! DS was in afterschool club from reception, he wouldn't have coped doing sport after a day at school but was fine in a 'traditional' wraparound.

SatinHeart · 14/08/2024 16:01

Ours does, it's run by the school not an external provider though.

Getting the school to find the TFC payment once made and add it to the right account on their wraparound booking system seems to require a lot of chasing though!

TowellingLife · 14/08/2024 16:07

Yes, they'll be claiming they ONLY do sport. Is it onsite? Do they not need to do some childcare when getting the children to the venue??

If there's another option I would look at it. I'd not be that comfortable with a no-childcare club.

longdistanceclaraclara · 14/08/2024 16:14

It's not a childcare setting it's a club so you won't be able to.

toffeeapplee · 14/08/2024 16:30

Hmm, in the materials received from the school it is badged as "wraparound" breakfast club and afterschool care. There is an element of sport but it also mentions arts, crafts, lego and that children can opt out of the sport bit? They run separate sport only after school clubs separate to this, so my understanding was that I'd be booking a childcare provision based on that info..

Might be worth asking them to be honest, sounds more likely that they do wraparound as well, but if they're not registered then not sure!
