Clerk Of Governors Details

Hi,

Does anyone happen to know a way of getting contact details for a Clerk Of Governors? It’s not on our school website & we’ve been asking the school for the past 2weeks repeatedly & still not had a response. I feel like they are running the clock down before the school term ends.

Ive also contacted the LA and they have been unhelpful!

Are their details in the Complaints Policy?
Or hand deliver letter?

Try clerk@ then the school email suffix? Or the complaints policy?

Or send to the school office marked for forwarding?

If you're raising a complaint, the chair of the governors is probably your best bet

I clerk for a number of schools and wouldn’t be the point of contact as I’m not employed by the school.
The contact details must be published in the complaints policy, and the school website for how to contact governors.

@Mummatothreecubs The Clerk is unlikely to be of use unless you have a procedural query. Lots of school governors use a clerking service - could be bought in from the LA.

If you are able to say why you want to contact the Clerk, maybe we could advise if this is the best option in the circumstances? Often a complaint goes through the complaints procedure. Having clerked GBs, I never had, or would expect, to have dialogue with a parent other than to arrange committees where parents attended, eg exclusion.

It's the chair of governors you want, the clerk is an admin role and they often change by meeting.

Puffinfoot · 12/07/2024 16:40

Why do you want the clerk? You should write to the chair at the school.

The Clerk does advise on legal procedures. It’s also advisory. The Clerk should be a consistent appointment but when using a service, there might occasionally be a substitute but we knew our schools and stayed with them.

If it’s stage two of a complaint against a Head, then you do contact the clerk. It should say in the policy how you do that. In our case, you leave a letter addressed to them in the school office. Other reasons might be to do with a consultation over change of admission criteria (voluntary aided school)?

It’s fairly standard to have an envelope for the clerk or the address is given to you in a letter. If it was a complaint, this would be covered.
