Have you heard from Primary School since allocation?

Just wondering if we're being impatient, but I'd like to know if everyone has heard from their infant/primary school about their child starting reception in September?

The people we know locally have all received emails/info in the post etc but we haven't heard anything yet

Next week is SATS week so focus will be on that. Once it's out of the way I'm sure you'll get lots of info

We will be contacting our new families after May half term. At the moment there is still some chopping and changing, late applicants, mind changes etc. I actually showed a family around our school last week - they hadn’t put us on their choices but then heard a bit more and wanted to have a look. They have contacted the LA to change their application.

Flubadubba · 12/05/2024 00:18

I have. First an email.to confirm directly with the school if we were accepting (LA assume acceptance unless you say otherwise here) and then a follow up with some paperwork, details about various things and some short settling sessions late in the summer term. We also recoved a thing about school meals, and an invite to go to the school fair in July.

Nor all schools locally have done this, though- the school that takes the majority of my daughter's preschool have yet to get in touch with anyone.

Thank you for your replies. I'll just leave it for a while then. I just want to get my son a little bit prepared as he hasn't even seen the school and we don't know anyone else going there

Yes we have, we’ve had a welcome email with info on and the timings of the settle sessions and teacher meetings in July and September before school starts.

As others have said, it's quite normal for schools to wait until after May half term to organise transition for their new starters. Many won't even know for sure who will be teaching Reception yet next year. Teachers have until 31st May to hand their notice in for September, so many schools wait until then to place staff for the following year. Some schools like to move existing staff regularly (teachers and TAs), so there's no guarantees anyone you meet in Reception now will necessarily be in that classroom come September.

Why didn't you let your son look around the school before you applied? They all would have run open days back in the Autumn term for that purpose.

Information evenings and stay and play visits don't usually start until mid June at the earliest. September still feels like a lifetime away for a 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 year old and sometimes trying to 'prepare' them too early can actually unsettle them as it's such a long wait. Much like telling them about a new sibling just 12 weeks into the pregnancy, or mentioning Christmas to them in September. It's so long to wait!

We've never started transition activities with our new cohort until mid June at the earliest. I'm sure you'll hear from them by the start of June.

Yeah the day after. It was very quick they seem organised.

rainingcatsandogs · 12/05/2024 17:34

We got a school info pack the day after allocations day, but my sisters school waited until after SATS week.

Thanks for your reply. We only had one viewing of each school and this one advised us to go without the children, so he never got a chance to view it. But as you say little kids wouldn't really understand if we showed them round a school a year before they were going there anyway.

There is understandably a lot of talk of the transition to big school at nursery at the moment and he's only seen the playground from the outside and really wants to go inside.

I've found out from the school website that there is an information evening in June, so I assume we'll find out more then, if not before

We had an email asking us to send proof of address and birth certificate. Then a further one thanking us and stating we would hear more information during May. I’m guessing after sats week.

Quitelikeacatslife · 13/05/2024 08:17

We are prepping info to send out, but is a busy time . Also the deadline was only 30/4 and lots of people pushed the deadline.
