Any "fluffies" (children identifying as cats) at your child's school?

I had no idea this was a thing until this week. Parents are fully supportive. Is this happening across the UK? Apparently they're being provided with a litter tray in a private room. I thought being allowed to wear ears and a tail was going beyond reasonable but the litter tray seems completely unhygienic and a step too far in role playing how they feel about their identity.

Not a hoax. There are a couple of "furries" at my daughter's secondary school. They wear the ears and a tail and run on all fours. Not all day every day but regularly. They don't use a litter tray.

Haha there's no way they'd get past the uniform police at my kids secondary school

It’s certainly not a myth. It’s happening. It’s real.

To the PP said shoot me now, redirect that to these cats parents.

civilisation is fucked

I go to Brighton Pride. I'm very much supportive of the LGBTQ + MOVEMENT. I was alreted to ' furries ' ( not called fluffies where I am ) I didn't realise until a few years back when the person I was with " took a seat " in protest . I was told it didn't have a positive look . It was more sexual fetish.

What school is this? I want to check their policies.

tattychicken · 04/05/2024 17:38

@Soigneur I realise it's hard to accept and makes you uncomfortable, but it is happening. Maybe not near you, but I am in the SE and this has been happening for the last 3-4 years. These are 14-15 year old girls, so much more flexible and supple than I am.

My daughter shrugs her shoulders and thinks it's bit strange but doesn't dwell on it too much.

swimlyn · 04/05/2024 17:39

Yes, I can confirm that this story is completely true.

Also, don’t forget that a few years ago the word ‘gullible’ was removed from the OED.

By now, people should surely understand that we live in a different world now.

Well, some people do…

Yes, indeed. The Land of Make Believe.

Where's your evidence/source for your statement that NHS staff are identifying as cats during their shifts?

I'd be very interested to read that.

Yes but the whole point of the OPs post was around the litter trays not kids dressing up

And yet again this is another example with some kids dressing up, but still a hoax with regards to the OP

avocadotoaster · 04/05/2024 17:47

Have you not heard of schools where children ideate underage marriage and pregnancy? There is an epidemic of the social contagion … something must be done…

Oh you mean some of reception were playing mummies and daddies…

There are ongoing cases within the NHS of staff wanting to identify as cats whilst on shift (and various internal procedures as it ties HR and Equality Diversity and Inclusion reps up in knots) but I had never heard of this within childcare before.

Could you please hand me some documentation on that?

Once again, what school is this?

Maireas · 04/05/2024 17:56

Ok, I'm just going to say that the likelihood of any student successfully negotiating the corridors of any secondary school, with their bags, on all fours, is remote.

They have cat flaps. Or they identify as hamsters for break time and go through tubes.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 04/05/2024 17:59

This thread is fucking hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

Fucking grown ass adults buying and promoting this shit.🙄

Meow!

I've just googled it and it's a known hoax in America. However I've met a grandparent this week who said it's happening in their local primary in the West Midlands.

I think you'll find they are lying.

Is that how they circumvent Health and Safety regulations? Clever.

MumChp · 04/05/2024 18:00

Last year our dd2 wore cat's ear most of the year. No one cared at school.

I have seen quite a lot of play and pretend-to-be as a mum of 3. Thought it was a normal thing at a certain time if childhood.

Maireas · 04/05/2024 14:09

Thanks, @ManchesterBeatrice it does work.
Some wild claims on there.
Clearly some people have really no idea at all how schools operate.

@Maireas
Sorry but done of the posters in there are batshit crazy.

Thank you. I don't really see how it can be a myth because this grandparent has seen the children walking into school as a cat etc. But I appreciate I can't provide any evidence!

Kids dress up as stuff all the time, doesn't mean that they really believe they're a cat.

My nephew used to be obsessed with his T-rex onesie, so sometimes my brother and SIL would let him wear it over his uniform to school and then take it off before going to class.

Didn't mean that he identified as a dinosaur or that the teachers let him eat the class hamster though!

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 04/05/2024 18:17

Plenty of kids wear headbands, winter hats, summer hats etc with cat ears on them. None of them think they are cats.

They're everywhere in the shops. They're cute. They're an accessory.

The mere presence of them, does not signify anything.

RatofTheSky · 04/05/2024 18:19

@tattychicken We're also in the South East. My kids have much the same attitude towards it as yours do.

And to those posters asking - of course nobody is going to out themselves by saying what school, but I know of at least two secondaries round here.

As an ex teacher I know exactly how schools operate - if management decide that staff must go along with the child's 'chosen' identity, and you don't want to be labelled as a troublemaker or worse, then you have to put up and shut up.

As to whether the children really believe they are animals - probably not, my kids think it is mostly attention seeking, but staff pander to it anyway.

Pander to what exactly?

Obviously, they don't shit in litter boxes.
So what else? Do they get to lick themselves and other people? Change their name to Fluffy? Give all answers in meows? Bring in dead animals to the teacher instead of an apple?

Maireas · 04/05/2024 18:25

No, there are directives about dealing with students and Identity. It is not laissez-faire.
You can reveal the name of the school, it's probably got about 1.5k students.
If not, please pm me the names of the schools because I am fascinated to see how they manage to circumvent all the policies.

Elephantswillnever · 04/05/2024 18:27

I think I'd take it with a pinch of salt. My kids have all sorts of ridiculous headbands. Cat ears, unicorn horn, bits of coloured hair. Joys of wearing school uniform, they look for areas to express their personality. Headbands, pencil cases, super funky socks!

They poo in the toilet though
