Primary school choices

I need some advice please. We are moving areas and our DS starts primary in September. The village we are moving to has a very good primary school, we will be on the waiting list but chances are we might get offered a place, there is however a place already available in the primary school in the next village along.. here is my dilemma…The big primary in the village means we won’t get any wrap around care at all, as all the spaces would be gone so we will be reliant on grandparents, not ideal as it woukd be quite regular. But it’s a ‘better’ school on paper with more to offer, big 90 intake per year. The other school is only one form, much better suited wrap around for us, ad hoc etc but isn’t such a ‘desired’ school. This one would be a 3 minute drive and would mean DS won’t know anyone in the village we will actually be living in…..

it’s back to the dilemma, big school vs small school, wrap around convenience vs making arrangements as it’s worth it to be in a ‘better’ school.

any advice gratefully received!

I wouldn't worry too much about the supposed 'better-ness' of the school, but I would put a huge amount of value on him being at the school where you live.

How realistic that is in terms of wrap around care, I don't know - it will depend on your jobs / location and working hours. But if a place in the school becomes available, is there not also the possibility a place in the wrap around care also becoming available ?
With such a big school (in a village?) , it would seem there is also a probability of there being childminders, or would an after school nanny be a possibility for you ?
