North London / Hertfordshire mums help with my decision - STAHS or Radlett

We have a couple of school options for my DD at 4+ and have narrowed our options down to STAHS or Radlett Prep. This brings a whole range of thoughts in my head and a big dilemma for me and I really need to decide today.

She has sporting tendencies and is bright and picks up things at this stage however its too early to tell. So really this is more about given the pressure around north west around 11+, is STAHS is a better option and good backup or should we be minded to look at Radlett ( where we would have to face 11+ but their results seem to be telling that their children do get through decent secondary options). I have heard form parents that tutoring seems to be common and was wondering how successful would I be if I was to take STAHS and then look for better league schools/ grammar schools at that point if my dd was indeed academic or sporty!

I know that I am quite driven myself so would do everything to support her but am at loss and slightly unfamiliar with the education systems and challenge to hand. Help!!

Hi, Radlett prep is one of the most 'academic' prep schools in the North west london area. If you feel your DD can cope with the fast paced type of learning (even compared to private schools), and you as a parent can supplement/keep on top of things at home then it probably is the right place for her. If you want flash new buildings, lots of extra curricular activities etc etc then it probably isn't suitable. Regarding tutoring, if you want your DD to end up in one of the top private/grammar schools then I'm afraid everyone aspiring for those schools will be tutored. This is where going to a good prep school known to prepare kids for 11plus may help as opposed to a through school like STAH.

However, your daughter may thrive at STAH and be doing very well...in which case, if she's happy, why would you move her? I would base the decision now on how 'academic,' you think she is currently and put her into a school that will support her accordingly.
