Hi

Just looking to pick your brains. Our school aren't known for doing anything mega for the Year 6 leavers and we don't have a PTA. A few of us parents have arranged a leavers party, venue is booked, food arranged and we have a DJ/disco. Just looking for any other ideas other than balloons to make it a great evening.....

Any ideas welcome.. :)

A photo booth always goes down a storm.

We've priced a few and for what they cost and for how long it's shocking We thought we could get props, frames etc and most of the kids have phones so could do a DIY one....

Ours had a theme so maybe you could try and do party games to match? For example we had bushtucker trials for an “I’m a yr6 get me out of here” theme party? Or if not, can you hire in or beg/steal/borrow giant jenga/twister/connect4 etc? Definitely do a DIY Photo Booth if you’re not getting a hired one in, the kids love it. Also getting personalised drinking cups etc that they get at the party?

To be honest they will just want some food (pizza) and some music to dance to.
The boys will get bored and want to wander outside to kick a football around.

Thanks, we have a buffet for them. Venue is in town centre so no footy opportunity unfortunately.

At our school events we just get the parents to lend props and a couple of instax cameras - (the business card size Polaroid style & kids pay £1 a photo) Always really popular.

A chocolate fountain would be a big hit too
for the buffet.

We got a lady who was starting out at our party who was perfect for what we needed. She didn't do all the retouching of photos etc but that's not what you need for a load of 11 year olds. She turned up with a load of standard type props, some personalised ones having googled the school and year 6 teachers names etc. she had a booth area set up and also walked around and took photos.

We couldn't afford a full on booth setup but she was great.

We did a home made Photo Booth. Ask around - most parents will have a few bits they can donate (silly hats / glasses etc) and a crafty couple of parents made a '20xx Leavers' frame for the kids to stand behind.

A bouncy castle company provided an inflatable assault course, sumo wrestling ring and another thing where they wear a bungee around their waists and run. All went down well.

Meant to add that there was no official photographer- the mums and dads took photos of their own child and their friends. Parents stayed for the party as it wasn't run by school so nobody wanted to assume responsibility for 60+ 11 year olds high on sugar and pop! There was a bar for grown ups!

Also - we had an ice cream van visit. They didn't charge a fee to attend - kids just paid cash for whatever they wanted from the van.

A fun idea could be baby/toddler photo of each year 6 student. My school did this when I was a child in the year book and it was always fun to look and see what others looked like as babies or young dc.
