Taking child out of school for holiday.

my son started reception in September. We have a family holiday booked for the end of June. Was much cheaper so we just went with it.

do I just tell the school I’m taking him on holiday and when? How far in advance should I tell them?

I know we’ll get a fine and I’m not too bothered about that just don’t know what to do with telling the school.

thanks

We have to fill in a form at the office requesting the time off. We then got a letter back advising it had been declined and could result in a fine.

Just email and let them know…..my DD emailed the head 2 weeks before a 6 week trip to Australia with her 2 girls…..there was no fine….he just emailed back …..enjoy….and I expect them to be in school for the remainder of the school year with no more term time hols…..obviously it was unauthorised

Better to ask forgiveness than permission…..i wouldn’t ask….I would just email and say what’s happening….end of…..regardless of forms

I don't think you get fined in reception

You can be fined from the term after they turn 5. So if this child is 5 by end March, they could fine the parents.

Always better to tell the truth. Obviously the school won't be able to authorise it but you'll maintain an honest relationship with them rather than encouraging your child to lie (which firstly isn't fair on them and secondly won't work - they always give it away anyway!). This way, your child can freely talk about it and you don't have to spend your holiday ringing in sick each morning (amazing how many people do this from a foreign dialing tone 😂 ).

Depends how old he is, where you live and how long you're going for as to whether you'll be fined. All authorities have different rules but here fines only kick in the term after their 5th birthday (compulsory school age) and for an absence longer than a week. A Monday- Friday absence doesn't usually get punished here, providing attendance is good the rest of the time.
