Or indeed - any of their choices?
I am so anxious about this. I had to stop myself ringing my first choice school to see if they could offer me a glimmer of hope -surley they must know by now. The letters don't go out to parents until 4th April. I don't know how I will be able to contain myself for that long - keep thinking about the what if's ....

Jingley I think it's April 22nd. Or maybe 5th. Our village newletter said if you have heard by 22nd to call your first choice school, but 5th is sticking in my mind for some reason

mumtoaprincess · 31/03/2008 18:33

You can only appeal if you think that the admission process has been administered incorrectly. But I believe that you can also obtain, under Freedom of Information, details of where everyone has been offered a place. Check out this page

frogs · 31/03/2008 18:34

We don't hear till 1st May! Aaargh.

pucca · 31/03/2008 18:39

We found out a couple of weeks ago and i am so chuffed as dd got the school we picked as 1st choice, really didn't think she would get in as no siblings there and i knew the school was over subscribed, such a big relief.

Fingers crossed for everyone else.

pinkteddy · 31/03/2008 18:44

Franniban there is a Mnetter who is an expert on appeals - can't remember who it is but hopefully someone will post who does! Alternatively you could do a search through old threads.

JingleyJen · 31/03/2008 18:55

Prufrock do I remember that you are in the Cambridge area? (we are too)
I did apply online - gosh I hope the spam filter we have on doesn't throw it in the bin!!

Prufrock · 31/03/2008 19:03

Yep - we come under South Cambridgeshire LEA

Eddas · 31/03/2008 19:06

Franniban, oh no hope you manage to get it sorted.

I feel very lucky to have got a place. It is only a small school and a bit out of the way so I don't think many people apply, which would help. Plus we live in the village and the school did say we shouldn't have any trouble getting in.

Franniban · 31/03/2008 19:44

thanks everyone, I shall be doing my research. I was discussing with dh, and it could be worse, but if I wanted him to go to the school he's been allocated I would have put it down!! It's so disappointing, as the school is twice as large as the ones we had chosen, not to mention the ofsted, which is satisfactory throughout rather than good or outstanding, winge winge winge.

pinkteddy · 31/03/2008 21:14

Franniban - I think it might be unquietdad who has won an appeal. See posts here HTH

mum2oliver · 31/03/2008 21:52

Eddas how do you know what timne to go back online to get the decision please?
I applied online and am trying to find out how I can find out online as going on hols on the day they poist out the letters.

Franniban · 31/03/2008 22:22

sagacious, congratulations

riven, that sounds very frustrating for you. Hope they work it out so your dd gets the school that you want.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting. I'm still a bit as to why it's so different all over the country. Doesn't make sense does it.

TheSweetLittleBunny · 01/04/2008 09:17

Franniban - I'm sorry you did not get any of your choices. And congratulations to those of you who did - sagacious. I actually emailed the head at the 1st choice school yesterday because I feel physically sick about it now - but she has not replied. Now I am worried that she didn't reply because we did not get in.

I feel resentful to be in this situation. Your choices should be your choices and that's that - even if they allocate on a 1st come 1st served basis, so if you want a school you get your application as soon as application process begins. I think it is wrong that people (as DH and I did) put so much effort into choosing a school, reading the Ofsteds, visiting the schools (twice in some cases), talking to the headteacher. You make all that emotional investment into choosing something that is right for your child and then you don't get your choice. That's not a choice then is it? Ohhh it makes me so

Sweetlittlebunny - e-mails don't always get answered immediately! When I e-mailed a school about DS, I didn't get a reply for about a week. So I wouldn't read anything into it. I do thing you need to get off the computer and distract yourself, rather than winding yourself up about a situation that might not happen.

TotalChaos · 01/04/2008 09:26

riven - what is the technicality behind that (the not just being able to withdraw her). Is it because she has been to a special school? or because of the statement?

Yes riven you are absolutely right. My sister has an autistic DS and has had major battles with her LEA concerning his education and welfare.

How can anyone allocate a school to your child without consulting you first? If for whatever reason the schools of your choice are not available, the LEA should send you a list of the schools in the county that are available and let the parents make the choice - surely? Not simply allocate your precious child to the crappy school you are trying to avoid. Even if that means a longer journey to the next available school, at least the parents would have a choice of what was left. If people wanted their geographically nearest school, that is what they would have put as their first choice, no?

It makes me sick sick sick to think that I have brought my child up a particular way and given him such a good start and the feel that the LEA could potentially f**k that all up in an instant by sending him to a school that is not of our choosing.
