The Childrens house primary school Islington. Any experiences?

Hello

my DD is at a private primary in Victoria park that we are just not getting on with. The children are not kind and they seem to have very little outdoor time among other issues with the teaching…

my DD is a creative energetic child and she comes home sad most days, nothing like how she was at her old nursery or when she is home. We have applied to local state schools and really like some options but I’m just wondering if anyone here has any experience with the now expanded childrens house?

Yes, my boy is there and TCH is honestly wonderful. The children are like a big family and all look out for each other. It’s academic without being pushy and the lack of outdoor space isn’t really a problem because they’re always off to nearby parks or leisure centres. We’ve absolutely loved it so far & feel v lucky.

@TheonlywayisNorth we are considering CH for our daughter for next year. Have they sent out any info regarding the VAT proposal? Also is the community strong? We’d love to be part of a strong parent community and worry it may be transient. Thank you!

Hiya, sorry for the late reply. The parent community is one of the things I love most about TCH. The parents are extremely friendly and the kids are all in and out of each other’s houses — & someone will always be up for taking your child home, or for a play date, if you can’t pick them up for any reason. Parents also very involved in school life which might not be for everyone I guess, but I love it. On school fees, I don’t know yet — except there was an offer to pay in advance. Anyway — it’s fab. Academic but also creative, local and friendly

Thanks so much - that’s great to hear

@Kaia123 What did you end up deciding? We are likely getting an offer from TCH for Sept 2025 but are still on list for state school applications? I was a bit disappointed the reception class is moving to the Elmore street location but guess it is only one year

I had a terrible time at the children’s house and cannot recommend them at all. The school has a very over the top neuro diversity is a superpower attitude because they want to position themselves as very inclusive and positive in that respect but with little regard for the feelings of the individual children or the parents wishes. My son joined in January 2025 and in March 2025 the school SENDco held a class without our consent and against my sons wishes telling his peers that he had autism (we’d only just received the diagnosis and hadn’t even had the doctors report back yet) and that it is his superpower (a term we’d explicitly said we didn’t want them to use when talking to our child). My son was completely distraught and humiliated, it has had a hugely negative impact on his mental health, something he struggled with before they did this to him. He didn’t want to go back to the school after they did this and so we had to pull him out. The school have behaved so appallingly in the aftermath of this even though they had to report themselves for the serious data breach of private medical information they are trying to blame my 6 year old child for their actions. We are still trying to help our child through the emotional trauma that they inflicted on him, it’s been really hard on us all. There are some really brilliant state primary schools in the area, whilst I wish this had never happened to my son I’m glad that he is not at that school anymore. He is in a much more nurturing place now and they really care about his well being and are being incredible in their support for him through this.

Unbelievable and outrageous! Super unethical and emotionally unsafe. The school and teachers clearly don’t understand autism themselves, while trying to teach young children about it. Hopefully, your son is now supported by teachers who are more informed and compassionate.
