Hello, seeking advice.
ds 7 moving schools in year 3 (September 2024). He is highly academic and a hard worker, easily top of year for maths and English in a selective prep. Also very shy and introverted, takes time to make friends.
due to unforeseen circs it is likely that I cannot fund school fees going forward for primary. So am looking for a good primary that is willing to stretch the most able pupilis and is also nurturing.

i have in mind:

  • st Mary’s Putney
  • Thomson house
  • sheen mount
  • deer park
  • holy trinity
any thoughts/recommendations welcome, thank you

Am in a similar situation so would love to hear any feedback on primary schools in the area including East Sheen, Sheen Mount, Thomson House. St Osmunds, Barnes Primary and any of the schools in Kew. Thank you!

Surely it's whatever one you can possibly get into, given waiting lists and tiny catchment areas? Have you been through state admissions before?

You need to ring round and see who has places and where you'd be on the waiting list. You don't just pick a school unfortunately

@Nevermindtheteacaps ive rang around and all of these schools and they have /expect to have space come September

@SchoolSearch2024

And they've no waiting lists? That's incredible in south west London.

@Nevermindtheteacaps seems that due to Covid and falling birth rate, spaces are now becoming available at schools which were previously highly oversubscribed

All these schools have always been easier to get into in y3 upwards. It's the age for moving out of London, moving to private etc.

It's the demographic change kicking in.

I expect some schools will remain very full, but I was surprised this morning to see a banner on the school fence advertising places available at the usually v sought after state primary (one of the highest performing ones in the borough)

(A nearby prep has been advertising vacancies for several months now, though they're still trying to make it sound like it's a rare opportunity!)
